Half letters in Hindi?
I just met with a native Hindi speaker. She told me that some words have only a half letter. Is that covered in any lesson?
Actually you have already come across plenty of them. The very second letter in the word हिन्दी is a "half letter". A half letter, which, by the way, is always a consonant, is so called because a "full letter" is one with a vowel. All half letters occur word-medially and are components of consonant clusters. So, for instance, in "स्वाद" (swaad, taste), the first consonant is called "आधा स" (aadhaa sa, half sa), and is part of the consonant cluster स्व.
So that is like a "blend". In English we write the two "whole" letters together, but in Hindi letters pushed together? Sorry trying to simplify it for my brain to absorb.
