"separates from" would be a clearer English translation

I would even go so far as to say it is the only acceptable English translation in the dialects with which I am familiar (US, UK, Canada).

"we want to separate the house FROM the school WITH a fence" "a fence separates the house FROM the school"

I'm glad to know that I was right about that since I am not a native English speaker.

'What separates your home from his home' was marked incorrect? Getting a bit sick of this
