Can't "kipindi" be translated as "lesson" as well as "period"? (Aren't they the same thing?)

In American English, I wouldn't say they are the same. A period is a time slot, and a lesson is what is being taught. But I am not familiar with the British or other uses of the terms, so that may just be an American thing.

Does this mean that the teacher will arrive by the time third period starts or just sometime before the end of third period?
