"Dia makan yang banyak agar tidak menjadi yang terkurus."

Translation:She eats a lot so as not to become the thinnest.

A better English sentence would be "She eats a lot so as not to become the thinnest."

Does "as so not to" also work grammatically?

No, unfortunately that doesn't work.

Thanks for your reply. I think those four words just fall out of my mouth in whatever order they fancy at the time. I'll try to be more mindful in future so as not to reinforce bad habits :)

hello, im struggling a bit with 'yang' in this section! Why do you need the 'yang' before 'banyak' here, would 'dia makan banyak' not be correct? Thanks!

I was thinking the same thing...

Also this English sentence is simply horribly written... Very awkward.

Edited earlier version of this comment ... thanks to Rick ... terkerus = thinnest.

... (or) too thin.

terlalu kurus = too thin.
terkurus = paling kurus = thinnest.

Thanks lockers. In future, can you please leave the original “incorrect” comment as is and add an additional clarification as a reply? It helps us to learn from each other’s mistakes. And trust me, I make banyak, both in the exercises and here in the comments!! :)

Is "Dia makannya banyak..." also acceptable?

"She eats a lot not to become the thinnest." Isn't that proper English?
