What is the difference between "Tidak" and "bukan"

When reading the sentences with these words I understand them, but I still do not understand when to use each of them when I am creating a sentence.

Tidak is used with verbs and adjective. Bukan is only used with nouns.

Anak itu tidak makan - the child does not eat

Gaunnya tidak biru - her dress is not blue

But if you are negating a noun, then:

Itu bukan buku - that is not a book
