Android app is down for many users

As of last night's update, I can no longer run Duolingo on my Samsung S7. I checked the Google Play Store and I am not the only one affected by the update. I hope to keep going by using my laptop, but when I'm traveling it gets complicated. I hope this is fixed ASAP!

Does anyone know of a way to track issues like this?

It doesn't report on the apps specifically, but it's a good starting place because the apps and the website all connect to duolingo.com

You can open a bug report here: https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/articles/204728264-How-do-I-report-a-bug-

Android 8...most complaining app threads where about this OS and incompatibilities....

Are you 100% sure that they test (if they do?) their app already for this OS?

What specific Duolingo Android app version are you now on?

Auto-Upgrades (default in the Google Play store, completely nonsense setting!) per se are a really bad thing, especially when companies always rollout master/default/trunk developer releases without having reached a stable branch and putting many weeks and months into testing.

At least since V3.72.2 and V3.80.2 it exactly feels like that without knowing how app developer test or if there is any QS testing department for functional tests.

The app and removed features IMHO goes downhill...

Have you tried to downgrade to V3.72.2 or V3.80.2?

What was the latest app version which worked?
Can you downgrade to that again?

Switch to Duolingo's web version (www.duolingo.com) on your Android device, because ...

  • it will work in the Chrome or Firefox browser on your phone or tablet, if you have rather good Wifi (or LTE/4G with an Internet bundle)

Other advantages of using the mobile web version on Android instead of the App

  • you can choose a good teaching method:
mostly "typing each word" instead of mostly "clicking on predefined words (word banks)"

  • it has grammar "Tips and notes" in verious lessons that introduce new grammar
