Duolingo used to be so much better in the past

I don't understand some of the recent - and less recent - changes at all... We lost so many features over last few months and years. What annoys me the most is the fact that it's practically impossible for Duolingo users to contact each other anymore. Why is that? We also lost the Words tab, for example... why? It was working fine. User profiles are basically useless nowadays, too...

I don't mind that Duolingo is different now. I just don't like that the changes made it worse than it used to be, at least in my opinion. The only positive thing is that new languages are appearing over time - but on the other hand, some languages, like Finnish, are being constantly ignored even though DOZENS of willing contributors have offered to develop the course.

I'm disappointed.

Only a few languages have the words tab. I still have it in French.

Just realized it; you're right. It's only the "old" Duolingo languages that were here before the addition of Dutch, apparently.

The most startling thing to have been removed is the spaced repetition stuff. They're still recording the data, but they're not showing it any more. That was supposed to be Duolingo's defining feature - the thing that made it better than other language learning sites. I can only assume that whoever made the decision to remove it lost a drunken bet. It wouldn't be hard to bring back either - something like a picture of a clock over the top right corner of each skill to indicate that it's time to practise it.

In the meantime, though, you can still see which of your skills have decayed, using the wonderful duome.eu. E.g. here's your page: https://duome.eu/ZelvaCZ/progress. There are even links to take you to each skill's strengthen lesson.

It's mainly the more popular languages that have it like French and Spanish but I don't understand why it's just those (plus a few others). What's the point? It's not like no one is learning the language, many people are and we miss out on these features for no reason. It just depends on the language which is a stupid and annoying thing.
