Needed consistency regarding "itu" ("the" vs. "that")
I keep running into situations where I'll get a question incorrect because it wants me to translate "itu" as "the". I'll then check the discussion and there's almost always a clarification saying that "that" should have been an acceptable answer.
This problem keeps getting worse further down the tree as less people are reporting answers. Is it possible to fix the entire thing so it doesn't require reporting on each individual answer?
Hai teman! I understand this is a big problem for the most of learners here. I can see some users that have already finished the tree are still making reports, but not necessarily leaving a comment in the sentence discussion in every exercise. I am trying to understand why some users do not use the buttons in the reporting tool, and I can see the reason is that the options do not fit well with the user intentions. That is, the major reason to use the reporting tool is the rejection of English sentences, and rare construction in the English translation given by the system, but the options showed in the reporting tool do not mark the error in the English sentence, but the Indonesian sentence. Also, some users cannot select the option to add the response as a valid translation. My solution is to report always "something", or even selecting all the options (perhaps without reporting the sound, if I see there is no problem with that) in the reporting tool. I know this is still frustrating, but without using the reporting tool the system cannot send the sentence report to the contributors to be solved. The other big problem is that there are still many possible translations to be added in every exercise. And if the amount of users decays, then the problem will grow more. After finishing the tree (first completed the tree in blue, then completed in green, and now coloring every skill in red) I try to work harder in every skill, many times repeating the same row of lessons without finishing it, to can report more sentences in the same skill. I feel exhausted, but then I decide to make the test and finish the skill. I cannot recommend others to do that.
Since it is not possible to fix the whole thing, I think there would be some "learning rule" for the Indonesian tree. All the time you see a sentence using "itu" or "tersebut" (other possible translation to "the", "that", "those"), first try to use "the" and a singular noun. This cannot work in the first attempt with all the sentences, but I think it can work with the most. In a second attempt you would try using "that", and with following attempts, using "those" and "the" with plural nouns. With that, if it is not a big solution, at least it is helping to follow a learning method. It can help also to focus better in other aspects of the Indonesian grammar, as verbs, tense markers, possessive nouns and pronouns, and more. You can apply this to the sentences with "ini", first using "this", then using "these" with plural nouns.

When you complete the whole tree, every skill has a color blue the first time. At level 2, the color is green. At level 3, it is red. At level 4, it is orange. And finally, at level 5, the skills have the golden, the same as gold coins. My method in the Indonesian tree is intended to complete the whole tree at level 1, after that at level 2, and so on. I think this is just one method. In another tree, as the Swahili course, I have conquered the owl by repeating every skill 300-600 times before advancing to the next skill until near the last checkpoint, then I finished the last lessons with less repetition. This was before the crown system appeared. Then, after entering the crowns, my tree was already finished, with the skills almost all red (level 3), so I decided to reach the level 5 in every skill, practicing a lot without a timer, and timed practice before advancing to the next skill. I think this is such an exhaustive work (perhaps to do once or twice a week), also adding reports while doing the lessons. Now, focusing more in the Indonesian tree, I want to try a different method finishing the skill levels with a slower pace in one lesson, and trying to cover the whole tree in less time. Also, I think I will use this method (not as in Swahili), with all the courses I have not finished yet, as in future courses as well. The last course I have started is Spanish for Italian speakers, and since I have studied Italian before doing it in Duolingo (and with Spanish as native language), I hope to follow this new method (combined with other Italian courses), using a very slow pace, and also without pursuing to finish the whole tree so fast.
