Where I'm from, you can say "shorter than I am" or "shorter than me." If you say "shorter than I", you're almost guaranteed to get punched in the throat. I would expect the course to accept "shorter than I" as an alternative if someone (you?) would report it using the report a problem button. We'd all be happier if you did.

Interesting that a few steps earlier in this same lesson the correct was ...than I. Since the purpose of a language is to communicate, you can get the message across even with incorrect grammar.

No, you don't normally call people "small" - especially not adults or when comparing two people.

You CAN say "I'm bigger than you" - and that might imply that you're going to try to beat them up.
