Re: Please restore my French score

I have just worked out that you have reset almost 100 of my levels to 0. You have also locked the last 5 lessons which I have completed! I now have to complete 100 lessons to level one in all of the 100 reset levels to have access to these. All to complete the course, which by the way, I HAVE ALREADY DONE... REALLY NOT HAPPY....

@Lrtward

The real problem and pain about the "crown update" and FAQ support articles are, that no engineer at the US HQ has obviously thought about that their old "tree update / skill conversion" code (resetting lesson variables) may not be 100% ready for the half-baken "crown update" from April 2018.

They have introduced crowns and said nobody will lose them ever, but they have not thought that updated trees from the Incubator or from staff will eliminate the skill and crown progress to a specific extend the more (e.g courses from staff: EN-SP tree resetting ~58 skills, EN-FR tree4, etc.) or less (my updated EN-PT tree extensions in June 2018 was not that bad for me, but this tree was from contributors).

Me too. Was on 250 crowns, now 50. It’s like I’m a newbie all over again. I actually finished the French tree over a year ago and I’m back to being a newb.

Please fix this.

I also finished the French tree long ago and have been working on the new one, but it's a bummer to lose all those crowns.

The crown system strikes another blow against language learning.

So... after three years of Duolingo I'm back to saying 'bonjour' again. Thank god for Memrise - at least I'm learning new stuff there!

This is the fault of the Duolingo team who invents crown system which currently works so badly. This is not the fault of the French contributors.

This is the fault of the Duolingo team

If the system now forces its users (not only the new ones) into tree migrations and converted skills at the wrong time, staff should be aware that they are actually responsible for this dilemma.

No, not the contributors.
For some users new trees are a good thing against boredom.

Even on the old Duolingo strength system (pre crown era) skills had been resetted and you needed to re-complete up to 10 lessons so converted skills where counted as completed again.

who invents crown system which currently works so badly

Well, this is the drama when you RESET existing skills to crown L0 (purple), when users had leveled-up several skills up to L2-L5.

The only solution is IMHO that existing users with half-finished or finished tree are being asked if they want to really reset their tree and be part of the newest A/B tree French experiment, or not.

The popup text would clearly have to highlight that several skills will need to have to be resetted and crown progress will be lost (e.g for EN-SP it was ~58 skills).

Without doing this, people have all rights to complain in multiple threads and staff really should listen to their userbase what they can or need to improve.

I know. I have to redo lessons that I did months ago.

I thoroughly agree with mummsy2. I was delighted to reach Level 25 and a 340 streak, just before i went on a hiking trip, where there was no internet. Hence I lost the streak, as expected. Most of my " modules " were reset at "3", and I was working through them up to "5", which I found interesting.I reached about 275 Crowns_ as far as I can remember. To be reduced to 50 Crowns is , frankly insulting and I have just spent a boring half hour on Level 1, 2 and 3 on Travel. Please restate my Crowns!!!

This might be a good test of dealing with French bureaucracy, which is famously frustrating, even for the French. You’ll need the resiliency to learn to deal with really sh*tty French SNCF officials on trains, banks, and other public officials who will routinely make your life miserable, then say “bein boff!!” And generally scoff at you as you struggle. There’s even an Asterix and Obelix episode about this called “La maison qui rend fou”.

You can downvote me for This if you want, but I will simply say “boff”.

Not sure I understand the link between the OP's complaint and the French bureaucracy.

OP seems frustrated with the Duo bureaucracy, and normally French bureaucracy is as frustrating as sudden Duo changes.

I don't think the OP is putting the blame is on Duo bureaucracy. Rather on dictatorial decisions, which cannot happen in France where the usual response to any seemingly unfair decision is massive demonstrations and strikes. For dictatorial decisions, we have revolutions.

Testing out skills takes a lot of time, especially in this case where there are plenty skills to do and plus many of them were already at level 5.

My tree was almost all gold and I was so excited. It is fun to have a goal and to be just on the verge of achieving it. Then I logged in one day a few weeks ago, and my Crown level had been greatly diminished, I had about 50 new “skills” that were all at Level 0, and all but a few of my Gold skills were gone. It was hugely discouraging to say the least. Why couldn’t they have let me achieve my Gold tree before resetting it without warning?? I have read comments that I should be happy that I have been given new skills to explore, but they are all very elementary and tedious. And again, I was looking forward to achieving my Gold tree. You could have reset it after that.
