Disappearing crowns

Yesterday (September 25/2018) I had 91 "crowns" in French, today it's down to 31. From what I've read Duolingo does things like this when they "tweak" lessons. I have zero interest in going back to level zero and review saying "hello" and "goodbye". Yes this is a "free" site and it's in their best interest to keep people here for ads, but this freakin' ridiculous! Who has time for this smoldering pile of solid waste?

Well I am a paying member and my tree has changed- third time. As long as the riche and calme is not back I am not really bothered. To truly learn a language you have to keep going over what you have learned. Lots of new material.

I totally agree with you. I had my english tree completely golden, with 303 crowns, and today I am with no more than 130 crowns, and having to review basic things like "What's your name", "A glass of water". That's completely nonsense.

Maybe it is a ploy to tempt those of us with lots of units to “spend” them to skip to get golden, then we run out of units and are forced to buy them from Duolingo. I cannot see other reason putting people back from level 25 to level 0.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I'm waiting for an explanation of duolingo.

True, Duolingo's "explanation" is laughable. Imagine being told you have to start over again after completing a few years of university or college, just because someone feels they've "improved" the curriculum. No one would stand for it. Dolingo can keep their "mommy knows best" BS. I'm investigating other platforms.

There's a lot of threads like this right now. You have my sympathies.

Fwiw it probably wouldn't take you that long to make up the difference by testing out, seeing as it's stuff you already know, like half an hour to an hour maybe? i can get not wanting to do that though.

On the upside i think this means you have more material to learn, so although it's disheartening it's probably a net win so long as you don't worry about crowns so much.
