'Nel' and 'Nello'
Why is it sometimes 'nel' and sometimes 'nello' example: La zuppa e nel piatto and L'ape e nello zucchero??
P.S. Please excuse my Italian (No accents)
"Nello" is used for those nouns that have "lo" as the definite article because they are masculine and start with "z" and others*), like "lo zucchero" --> "nello zucchero".
"Nel" is used for those masculine nouns that have "il" as the definite article: "il piatto" --> "nel piatto".
*) Explained in this thread: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/27394182/Why-lo-zucchero-not-il-zucchero
