Question about the practice button on the main page of the tree
I had a bigger break in practicing and I see the system has changed a bit. I assume that nowadays the "Practice button" on the main page of the tree doesn't work the same way as before? I mean, practicing the tree that way doesn't really increase the level of the skills and doesn't make them gold? I may be wrong, but I've gone that way for a couple of times and nothing happened, so I guess now in order to make the skills golden again, you have to practice them separately? Correct me if I'm wrong.
The colours in the tree don't show the "strength" as they did before, but instead the levels reached, i.e. the progress you made. The practice button does the same as before (choosing the weakest parts and strengthen them), but the effect is no more visible in the tree.
In order to change the colours of a skill, practicing doesn't help (even not practicing that skill). You need to go on with that skill taking the next lessons.
You do still earn daily XP, when using the practice function, that counts toward whatever daily goal you've set and (thereby) to not break your streak. But overall it's as fehrerdef says, as for how it affects your signs of progress.
Timed practice can be really helpful too. I thoroughly failed to complete a single section of it under a timer for my first two months on this course, and when I finally started getting quick enough with my reading and writing (and accuracy, moreover) to be able to sometimes or often finish a timed practice, it was both a great feeling of accomplishment and a major motivator toward learning more.
Hm. I was asking mainly about going with the "practice" button and making skills golden with it, like the old days.. Not about the process of practicing.
I understood that. I just wanted to express that even though it does not count toward the advancement that is recorded in each skill, it at least keeps your overall XP moving up to preserve your "streak".
My additional comment about timed practice was unnecessary.
