Streak? How does it work?
Hi there. I just started on Duolingo today to practice my rusty Chinese. I am at 630/30, xp goal met, 1 day Streak, 11 hours left. But what does it all mean?
A streak is just there to keep you motivated to practice your language(s) everyday. If you come back tomorrow and meet your goal, your streak will be 2 days. However, if you don't meet your goal, you'll lose your streak. Then you'll have to start over from 0 days again.
You do get a little reward for practising everyday though: a 10 day streak will give you 1 lingot, 20 day streak will give you 2 lingots etc :)
Thanks, Elise. I understand now. And if I need a day off? If I have the right number of lingots, I can pay for the streak to be held for 24 hours? How many times can I do that?
There's no limit to buying and using those, except if you run out of lingots of course :P I have used them countless times! Now I have more time so I'm trying to go as long as possible without a streak freeze, but it's no problem if you use them often.
Nothing happens, the goal and the streak are just there to keep you motivated. You don't get special rewards and it also doesn't mean that you can skip the next day because you made enough xp to meet your goal for two days or anything other than that :)
Hello, Elise and thank you for being so helpful! So if it says 60/30 xp goal met, what does that actually mean?
It means you have earned 60 xp that day, and your goal is 30 xp. So, you've met your goal for that day. Anything you do besides your daily goal of 30 xp is just extra, so if you earn 30 xp extra it'll say 60/30 xp goal met!
