First-ever Pop Up Gaeltacht in La Jolla, SD County

Duolingo Irish Users, a chairde

Hello, I am Jeffrey Sardina, a proud Irishman and Irish-speaker (gaeilgeoir) in La Jolla. I am very happy to announce that I am organizing the first-ever Pop Up Gaeltacht in La Jolla!

A Pop Up Gaeltacht (or Pop Up) is an event where Irish speakers and those interested in hearing or learning the language can come to speak and learn some Irish. Everyone is welcome regardless of their level in Irish—we just love to have people come out!

La Jolla Pop Up will be at the Rock Bottom brewery near UCSD (8980 Villa La Jolla Dr. La Jolla, CA 92037). The event is planned for Saturday, October 27, from 8:00pm onward. Open seating is available to everyone in the community. It will be the craic!!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jeffrey.sardina AT gmail.com.

Beir bua, --Jeffrey Sardina

Are you familiar with Shanti’s Irish classes at the House of Ireland in Balboa Park? If not, I can let him and his Irish learners know.

Tá bia ann :)

I am not familiar with his classes, although I did contact House of Ireland. But I'd love if you could mention it to them as well :)

Go raibh maith agat!

Oops! I meant to say Oct. 27; that has been corrected

Thanks for organizing this, Jeffrey! "Ní thuigim" turned out to be a useful phrase, but I did understand quite a bit. Speaking is a different matter. It definitely gets me motivated to use some additional resources for the more conversational aspects of Irish.

Tá fáilte romhat! Speaking definitely has some hurdles, but I’ve found that the more you speak with people the easier it gets. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it; I’ll post again when I organize the next one!

Agus go raibh maith agat as teacht go dtí an Pop Up!
