Anyone know any good Dutch TV shows, movies,YouTube channels, etc?

I heard that learning a language is easier when hearing native speakers talk. Since I live in the Southern USA that is hard. So I need some good shows/movies/channels to watch. Any ideas? :D

Yes, you can watch Het Jeugdjournaal, this is the world & Dutch news, but aimed at children. The newsreader uses a bit easier vocabulary and the items are shorter and catchier.

For the items: https://jeugdjournaal.nl/
The broadcastings: https://jeugdjournaal.nl/uitzendingen/

On this website uitzendinggemist.nl, all the broadcasted programs on the Dutch television are online available for a couple of days. Most English spoken shows have Dutch subtitles. Series, game shows, documentaries to talk-shows and soaps, you can find it all here. (don't know if this site is blocked for other countries?)

Do you have Netflix?

There's a new (to Netxflix) film that's just started called "The Resistance Banker" that looks like it has potential.

Here's a list of "Dutch movies" on Netflix from the InstantWatcher site. Not all of these are in Dutch or even have Dutch subtitles, though. It simply means -- I guess -- that Dutch filmmakers created them.

https://instantwatcher.com/search?content_type=1+2+3&genres=10606&sort=year+desc

The search for Dutch language movies and TV series no longer appears to work on this site, unfortunately.

Some old Dutch language movies no longer (or never were) on Netflix, I think, that I have enjoyed with very superficial "what are they about" explainers. (All the plots get far more involved and intriguing, but I don't want to spoil these for anyone else.)

Four out of five of these are about WWII, so those might not appeal to you if you're not into history. The first is contemporary.

-- Broken Circle Breakdown - Two people -- one religious, one not -- fall in love through their passion for bluegrass music. Their daughter gets cancer, which has a devastating effect on their relationship. (No Dutch title of which I'm aware. It's set in Belgium, so it's Flemish Dutch.)

-- Zwartboek (Black Book) - A young Jewish woman becomes a spy for the resistance in the Netherlands during World War II.

-- Oorlogswinter (Winter in Wartime) - A Dutch teen tries to assist the resistance during World War II.

-- Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange) - A classic from the '70s with a young Rutger Hauer. During WW2, Dutch students join the resistance movement against the German occupation of the Netherlands.

-- De Tweeling (Twin Sisters) - Twin sisters, 6, are separated after the death of their parents and sent to distant relatives before WWII. One is sent to a middle-class family in the Netherlands and the other to a poor farm family in Germany. (You'll hear both Dutch and German, if memory serves me correctly.)

I think most shows mentioned here are restricted for viewers outside the Netherlands, but there is bvn.tv (selection of the news- and other shows for Dutch living elsewhere)

I should start with music, learn the lyrics, eg : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYqhF6TxiXE . Don't stop using DUO, it is amazing how good you become, don't rush, make every step gold before proceeding to the next level, memrise is a very good tool to complete with DUO, my Mexican girlfriend used memrise and I was amazed how good almost perfect she spoke . Good luck !

I found this particularly good to start with - https://www.netinnederland.nl/en/media/alles.html - because of the sub-titles. As a learner I also decided to do what children do and watch simple cartoons with a basic vocabulary and simple grammar. Search You Tube for "Peppa Pig in Dutch" and you will find a couple of hours of useful dialogue (and though it can be difficult to explain to family why an adult is watching kids' cartoons remember and explain that it is for language acquisition, not entertainment!)
