Can anybody explain, when do you have to use the Gerundium? And is it practiced by native speakers?

The non-answer: Yes we use it but most native speakers don't know what it's called or how to explain when or why we use it. I've found it's one of the most difficult parts of English Germans have to learn and where they are most often making mistakes ;-)

Dirk already listed some sources. I only want to add that the gerund is indeed used very often in English. It is very characteristic of the English language.

Hi Elli,

I couldn't more agree with you. The gerundium is not easy. I'm not sure what's your first language but for us Germans its very hard to understand. I found a good video on my favourite youtube channel. Maybe it can help you, too.

We use gerund very frequently. As stated, most English speakers won't understand what it is but they use it instinctively. They find themselves USING it instinctively.
