Navajo (known as Dené Bizaad in Navajo) is spoken by the Navajo people in the Navajo nation, located in North-East Arizona/North-West New Mexico, USA. With 170,000 speakers, it is the most widely spoken Native American language in the US. It is a member of the Southern Athabaskan branch of the Na-Dené language family, one of the largest in the Americas, spoken by the descendants of the second great human migration into the Americas.

Navajo derives from an old Tewa word meaning "cultivated fields or they took from our fields." In their own language, the Navajo Indians call themselves Diné, which means "people or a human being."
