Strength bars messed up.
This is a problem I've first encountered about two weeks ago and it has been a recurring problem ever since. I already Tweeted about it directly to @duolingo and @duolingosupport, but no one seems to care to answer. A skill sometimes says it needs practice with not all strength bars filled. When I practice it and succeed. It simply does not register, at all. The screen and logo do not turn gold and the strength bars stay at 3/4 (or something). It doesn't matter if I try this once or 10 times.
Now I recently completed both the 'adverbs' and 'objects' skills and when the underlying branch in the tree opened up, the 'to be' skill suddenly was gold at full strength while I didn't even start to practice it yet. The 'adverbs' and 'objects' skill are not at full strength anymore and I can't strengthen them.
This is really starting to become very annoying and is driving me to the edge of quitting duolingo. Which is sad, since I've had a very pleasant experience with it so far and recommended it to several friends.
This problem still persists. After two weeks the strength level has lowered to two bars. Strengthening it still does not work. It is really annoying.
I quit paying attention to the strength bars a couple of months ago. They made some change that messed them up, and, for whatever reason, they have never fixed it. I do the practice lessons because they help me learn the language--but not for the effect on the strength bars. (I find a ratio of two practice for every new lesson works well.)
I understand, but I'm a bit neurotic that way: I like to keep all of my badges at full strength. It's just really, really annoying that it won't strengthen up. Even after 2 weeks.
I dropped Duolingo for a few months, but seeing as I freed up some time by taking the train to work. I've returned to my Spanish course on Duolingo, only to find out that after several updates to the iOS application. This bug still has not been addressed.
To me, as a developer, this is simply ridiculous.
I have the same problem in the french. Yes, I sent a message. I guess they will get round to fixing it at some point. At least I am not alone.
Are you switching between the website and an app version? I have this issue because I sometimes use my tablet or PC but mainly play on my phone. If I complete a section or strengthen it on one device it does not update on the other immediately. You have to close and reopen it. Keep in mind that on Android hitting the home button does not close an app, it suspends it. Press and hold that button to see a list of running apps, then press and hold duolingo, then close. Now reopen it and everything will refresh properly. Even if you're only using your phone this should resolve the issue.
Also, the "To Be" section was complete for me too when I got that far. The reason wh is they put it way too late on the tree, you'v already mastered it by the time you get there. So it shows as complete because your strength on the words SER & ESTAR is at 100%.
I have the same problem because even though I am good at one part, I always have to strengthen skills which is very annoying and driving me to the edge of quitting duolingo. This constantly bugs me so how do I finish Duolingo quickly?

This is still happening and I'm doing Italian. The strength bars are not increasing properly. I'm also having problems with the Lingots not augmenting correctly.
I'm doing Italian too and am having the same problem, already finished the course, but keeping the strength bars full is impossible even with daily practice. They go down too fast and it takes too long to bring them back up. I think they should use the same test that they use for 'test out' to review a skill. That way we could get back to full bars for a skill in one session rather than having to redo it 5~6 times. I've sent them several messages using the feedback button but they've never answered.
