3 YEAR STREAK !

  • 25

  • 1206

I dont know where the time has gone . I will reach a 3 year streak without using any saves . I am happy with my progress with Spanish and the new Duolingo site . Cant wait until I make the owl gold . Although i cant speak fluent Spanish . I am happy with where I am . If nothing else it will keep my streak going until I am . I only had one close call before my 1st year . I was down the lake about 8 miles by boat . I only had a I-Pad at the time no cell phone . I had to complete a leasson so i came into town by boat and was lucky enough to get close to a hotel on the lake with free Wi-Fi . I did my lesson in the boat on the lake and returned to camp ...

MADE IT 3 YEARS !!!

An 1000 day streak without any streak freezes is even more impressive, let alone a 1000 day streak. A sign of determination and hard work, congratulations!

It not all about the streaks though. Its about doing what it takes to actually be interested in the learning. Just doing it for the streaks is a very good way to get bored very fast. That's like having streaks on snapchat with someone you don't actually talk to just so you actually have a streak; it doesn't really matter. What matters is how good you actually are at the language, not what your streak is. However, a 1000 day streak is very impressive, I will admit

Very nice! I would also have a streak of about 2,5 years if it weren't for vacations :) After I originally started in 2016, there was an outage after about 90 days so my streak broke. Then my second two streaks of 150 days each got broken by a bad memory during vacations. At least this summer I remembered :D

Hi, I’ve never used a streak freeze, but after friends lost longtime streaks, I bought a day freeze as insurance. I haven’t needed it yet, but I go nuts with nerves on travel days fearing loss of internet.

@izzygia

Come on, can't you verify your guessed information accurately BEFORE posting / offending Greg?

You can clearly see on Greg's Duome.eu or his official Duolingo extended user profile that the last "streak freeze" was bought (not used!!) in 2016 two years ago, see his explanation: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/29188601$comment_id=29223581

Why would anyone write something like you do without previous checking, if the problem also might have been related >90% on Duolingo itself?

Sorry that you think someone is bluffing you . I have no reason to do so . I wrote this post a week ago . I did state at the start that I will reach 3 years . Today I reached 3 years so you can "edit " your ordinal post for me to add " I made it " .......Do you get it now ? Good luck and congrats on your 2 day streak or is it really a 2 day streak ? ;)

@Greg

Izzygia's profile

  • Daily Goal: 50 XP
  • Last Streak: 1 · lost 6 days ago
  • Created: 3 weeks ago
  • No streak freeze bought so far / at the moment

or is it really a 2 day streak

No, it is not, as the account is three weeks old.

See, Izzy can't even hold a daily streak because of the high "coach goal" setting.

This is not very astonishing to me...higher coach goals 20-50XP do IMHO not work too well with daily streaks; you will run into a reset the sooner or later.

Looks like sometimes you have to decide for yourself:

  • High daily coach goal (incl. reminders): Better progress in a tree; you have to push forward

  • daily streaks as motivation:
    More constant / regular progress

  • with 1XP/10XP coach settings:
    (Maybe) be on the a bit slower side (which does not really hurt); you still can do 50-150XP++ / day after you saved your streak.

A 50XP coach goal + three years streak + no "streak freeze / repair" would be a great triple for sure:

But how realistic is this to achieve in a Duolingo user lifetime?

You have to be very addicted, healthy and be not too busy with business or private life (not a single day!).

Out of the millions of Duolingo users: Who can really achieve this?

Even if users manage to do this:

This still does not mean that a user learns any "better", completes the tree earlier (with good retention, no tapping word banks) or is successful in RECALLING the learned words, phrases and sentences when translating/writing (typing) here on Duolingo or in flashcard applications or when speaking in their target language.

Well, I'm at 368 streak now with 50 XP daily target (I forgot when I started doing it though, but at least 10 months ago), just with the occasional streak freeze - mostly because I forgot to play :)

Edit: I checked the Duome.eu statistics site and there are guys with 5+ year streaks and 100k+ words learned (I guess it's basically every language on Duolingo!), and the list is not short by any means! Hundreds of people have reached that.

    Hi Greg,

    congrats!

    Where is that avatar picture taken from?
    What beach is it? Mexico? Haven't I asked this already in another thread? ;)

    I see you have got your EN->SP tree update.
    I guess this will keep you busy for a while...

    If you get bored:
    You can start the Spanish->English reverse tree at any time; this improves the typing ratio on the web portal for EN->SP translations even on lower crown L0-L2 (L3?) levels.

    I have seen a user posting some details about the latest EN->SP tree update in another thread...hmm, he didn't sound too happy...maybe it is still in it's early beta state...

    I love my Portuguese->German reverse tree (text was posted in my native German language): https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/29186047$comment_id=29190532

    @Lilly

    This means to complete all skills, at least on crown level L1 = finished the whole course (first round).

    You will receive the "golden owl" at the bottom of the tree once you have finished the course.

    @Blake_Belladona

    so can you get a silver owl or a copper owl?

    Not on Duolingo.com, no.

    However there are on Duome.eu a bunch of new competition icons (golden, L1-L5, golden L5, etc.), see the "legends explanations" in the top right corner:

    http://www.duome.eu/en/de
    http://www.duome.eu/de/en
    http://www.duome.eu/en/es

    On the SHOF www.duome.eu you can reach these following ranks (sorry, no silver or copper icons assigned):

    • Ultimate: 182 members
    • Platinum: 623 members
    • Gold: 1178 members
    • Silver: 1903 members
    • Bronze: 3277 members
    • Soon (300d+): 818 members
    • Junior (100d+): 3472 members

    @Mr.Magnificant

    Sometimes I hate to have to correct users, but as I am the bad German guy, I will do this job for now.

    Quote: actually thats not true, you used a streak freeze

    Actually you are playing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ bingo now, aren't you? :-)

    AFAIK there is no way on Duolingo to tell if/when a user has used a streak freeze to protect his streak or not.

    The only thing which you see (or you have to be staff/admin and check all private logs which are not accessible for us) is, that Greg has bought the streak freeze item on 12/23/2016 and has not used it ever since.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

    Theoretically, Greg could have been without any streak freeze (not equipped) item for the first period of time.

    You would not notice this because of missing log access.

    Don't believe me? Go and ask FieryCat.

    There are more users on the Duome freeze list (1354 members) with no equipped streak freeze, either:

    • a) they may have used it recently or at a given time...a longer time ago
    • b) or maybe that they actually have NEVER bought one.

    Viele Grüße
