In Tanzania at least, they often call breakfast chai, so this probably means you'll miss breakfast.

Interesting. But 'chai' does mean tea. Breakfast is typically 'kiamsha kinywa/kifungua kinywa'

It could also mean bribe or cash. "Kitu cha chai" is an expression used for asking for money, or for giving money for a service.
