I'm learning Korean because I like this language! Especially I'm learning Korean because I want to understand BTS's songs and hope I can meet them someday!
omg i finally found another A.R.M.Y i am also a bts fan ommmaaa jungkook is my bias
I was trying to learn Korean because I am Korean and the language sort of got lost in our family. My Grandma was born in Korea and speaks fluently but she brought my Dad over to America when he was little and he never learned and now I don't know either. I started the Korean course but it is so different form the romance languages I am used to, I'm not sure if I'll be able to pick it up again any time soon :)
I like K-Pop, Korea has such an interesting culture, the language is maybe a little bit easier than chinese, they have a really cool sign writing and they have tasty food :) Someday I want to visit Korean, then I can talk with them in their native language :) A little bit, it's a difficult language of course.
I learn Korean because I listen k-pop and I want to understand their songs))
I have a black belt in taekwondo, and a lot of tkd masters in the US are first-gen immigrants who speak korean. I know some words from the sport, but not many. I thought it would be fun to learn since I already have that connection to the culture.
Also, I'm trying to learn at least one language from each continent. Because of the tkd connection it made sense for Korean to be my Asian one, but also, I took Japanese for a year in college and I HATED learning all the kanji symbols, so I didn't want to do Japanese or Chinese! Korean has an alphabet, yay!
Korean culture interests me quite a bit. Food, rap music, history, even just the language itself. I also fell in love with the language just by hearing it. I don’t know what it is about Korean, it just looks and sounds majestic a lot of the time. I also really like learning challenging languages, which Korean is to English speakers.
i chose it randomly for a personal challenge, and a challenge it was. i happened to become best friends with a korean person and study to speak korean as well as she speaks english.
I want to learn Korean because I am Korean, but I came here about when I was 6, and I don't speak Korean that well... =( But I am learning French so I can't do Korean right now... =(
same well the french thing but i find that i learn more korean than i do french and i have to take a foreign language in high school. And i find korean a lot easier than french. especially conjugating verbs in french... yeah not easy at all
Linguistics and learning foreign languages is one of my hobbies. I also studied Korean in college.
One of my childhood friends is the children of Korean immigrants, so I wish to communicate with them.
I wanted to learn an East Asian language because I knew they are completely different from European languages. I wanted a challenge, and I also like the way they sound. I settled on Korean because of its logical writing system and lack of tonality. I love the language, and I hope to one day be able to visit Korea and communicate with the natives.
A friend was learning it, so I decided to learn a little as a hobby for fun, but it has grown on me quite a bit :). The same is happening for German I believe, haha! Although I won't be a serious learner in either for quite some time.
What a coincidence! I had exactly the same story with learning korean, but needed to focus more on spanish and french so I just did it as a hobby
A coincidence indeed! For me, I'm currently focusing on Japanese and Spanish, though I have lots of fun playing Korean Dungeon on my phone!
How are your language studies going with them all?
Hi, I want to learn Korean because I like this language and my main goal is go to Korea, make master degree in future.
I think the language sounds really beautiful, and the alphabet looks super cool!
I'm learning Korean because first of all I always wanted to and also because I train in TKD in which my Master and Grandmaster are from Korea and speak it all the time. Also in a couple years I want to go to Korea knowing some of the language. :D
cool that you do TKD so do I what belt are you. My grand master is from Korea too
I am Conditional belt which is the belt right before 1st degree black belt
I'm learning Korean because BTS got me into it. I want to visit Korea someday. I am also OCD so I feel like I have to master this language now that I have already started even though I am aware that this language is not the most beneficial for me to learn. I feel like I could be learning a language that is more commonly used but I think this language is really fun to learn and I just want to finish the duolingo tree.
There are two main reasons why I am learning Korean. First, I really love BTS. In the future I will definitely go to live and Korean signings with my best friends. I am thinking that I wish I could talk at that time. The second one is sometimes referred to as the second Korean boom, and it is cute when you write Korean with a graffiti of Purikura. Besides, Korea is fashionable and cosmetic, because it is wide and fashionable, I would like to go there. I would like to be either a translator or a k-pop idol
i love korean culture for 2 years now i especially love kpop bands like bts twice redvelvet and so on
I wanna feel closer to people who aren't like me. I don't like who i am and learning Korean has changed that by a little. I am also doing it to be closer to some K-Pop groups i love, they've learned for me now it's time to learn for them <3
i have always been interested . in other cultures other than my own. And so i found the most interesting was korean so. in 2019 we are planning to go to south korea and i wanted to help translate for them. There is also bts that helped. Also i dont want to wait for captions for when they go live on Vlive.
i love BTS! but ive always wondered what it would be like to learn korean, so i decided to learn its really fun!
Learning Korean is not good idea. Trust me. Learn Japanese instead of korean. it will be much usuful. all the good animation is made in japan. and japan is better than korea.
It depends on career, passion, and tons of more things. Korean business is becoming more prominent, so knowing some is definitely not a waste. For passion, personal joys and self-fulfillment often throw practicality out the door, because it's to provoke a specific emotion. For instance, why knit socks when you already have two drawers full as a hobby? Because you enjoy it!
In short, it really depends on the person's goals, so making a general statement that Korean isn't useful is technically incorrect, because it is dependent on other things.
Also, I hear Japanese is good if you're also interested in robotics! Just an interesting thing I came across.
FirstConan that's your opinion. obviously not a fact. Everyone has a passion and love for a certain things about anything. No language is better than the other. Korea and Japan are both useful on same things or different.
Differences with both countries: Korean has a lot of promising jobs and promoting products. And make one of the best t.v. dramas. Japan has one of the best tech in the world. And is more popular with anime.
Similar/same: Both countries have the best fashion. And has very fast WiFi.
And even though Japan and Korea are two different countries, cultures and languages. They have a lot of similarities.
You shouldn't tell people to change their choice in what they want to learn. It's nice to know that you took a strong interest in Japan, but not everyone wants to learn Japanese.
whoa calm down we did not ask for all that not everyone is into animations. and we asked why you are learning korean nowhere in there why are you learning japanese. oh and what makes one language better than another. i don't think this comment was relevant at all to the question. and how can a language be more helpful than another. If you are going to state something make sure you back it up , because everyone has their own opinion, it was a simple question.
ah and saying that learning korean is not a good idea, well i don't know about anyone else but only i can decide that not someone else especially who has a bias over another language. but hey its your personal preference.
FirstConan even though you say learning Korean is not a good idea, it shows the language icons next to your name that your learning Korean for one of the language to take.
I don't know if your being serious or being a online troll.
I'm learning Korean because I love the language, the culture, the country, and the people. Korean history is so interesting and vast. I love history. One of my favorite subjects.
I haven't really ate much Korean food but I am to give it a try. The Korean entertainment in my opinion is one of the best. I love Korean music, movies, and shows. Especially their reality shows are hilarious.
Every Korean person I met are really nice. They are well mannered and don't want to give people problems usually.
Korea it self is beautiful and interesting. It just seems like a nice place to visit.
When I feel like I can communicate in Korean and learned a lot about the language and culture, I want to go visit there and have a fun time.
I'm new here. the reason for me to learn Korean is I like to watch Korean drama and I need to understand what they speak. I also like Korean words very cute :)
안녕~! My dream is to study in Korea, but I am also passionate about the culture of all of Asia and that of Korea itself was the one that attracted me more attention, I really want to study Korean, I find the language very beautiful, easy, and fun, I love to listen to music Korean and I think the Korean people are very handsome too. Go study and pass in TOPIK! c:

I have wanted to learn a new language for a while and even was interested in korean for no reason at all, I only knew a few things. Then I started to listen to BTS and I didn't like the language barrier so here I am :))
