How do you do a reverse tree?
I see people talking about completing their reverse trees. What exactly does that mean, and how do you do it?
Very important for reverse trees:
- 1) Turn OFF the speaker in your settings: https://www.duolingo.com/settings
Otherwise you will get all the "listening" exercises in your native language (e.g English).
- 2) To hear the sound (e.g Spanish) of the L1 base/source language (your target course language) you need to install Camilo's Tampermonkey browser user script "Duolingo Tree Enhancer": https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/19654789/Userscript-Tree-Enhancer
With it you can hear the TTS audio on a web browser for your target language on (right hand side) translations), multiple choice answers, alternative solutions, fill the word into the blank (choose from options 1-4) exercises, etc.
It really helps to be able to hear the audio in your target language.
Audio enhancement for forward trees
- Camilo's user script can even improve your forward tree for hearing audio in your target language on those more rare seen right hand side translations (switched L1 English -> L2 target language), multiple choice answers, alternative solutions, fill the word into the blank (choose from options 1-4) exercises, etc.
No, do not even think about in using a mobile tapping app for a reverse tree.
You will miss all target TTS audio!
Also it makes not much sense to use word banks when you actually want to train writing in your target language.
The web portal supports typing.
I would be hesistant in using test-outs on a L0->L1 crown level, as you might miss some vocabulary from NEW words or you might not see all available sentences as it has been explained to me once by Matfran in 2017.
Very helpful, thanks. I'll be starting them in reverse in Spanish and German in the months to come, so I flagged this.
If you currently learn spanish from english, the "reverse tree" is english from spanish. You have to select you speak spanish and you want to learn english.
be aware that changes the language of the interface, all the menues, e-mails coming from duome everything. better to understand a little of that language when doing it.
Quote PaulLeger: At what level should your first tree be before you start your reverse tree?
How do I change to english. My language choices do not include English because that is my native language. Do I have to create a new account as a Spanish speaker wanting to learn english?
No, you just switch the course with the "Add a new course" menu.
Choose "I speak Spanish" and add "English" as the target course.
Don't be afraid.
Your English->Spanish course progress will not be erased.
You can switch back and forth (on the web portal with the quick "course switcher") between both courses any time.
