The exercise indicates a question. Shouldn't the correct answer be "were Matēj and František talking about their grandmothers"?

"Matěj and František spoke about their grandmothers" was marked wrong and yet the dictionary hint was "spoke"

We do already accept many translations with "speak". Did ... speak Were ... speaking and similar.

We might be missing the affirmative order. Unfortunately, we have no recent reports for that, everything is a year old or older.
