Duolingo Podcast at the gym?

I'm notoriously bad at following podcasts. My short attention span and abysmal audio memory make for some major incompatibility. Staying on task for me means a lot of rewinding and looking for where I wandered off, even with podcasts in my native language. So, podcasts are continuously frustrating for me and I generally forego them for that reason.

However, I listened to around 7 of the Duolingo Spanish podcast episodes over the year and that was a new record for me! I loved it. If I wandered off, the narrator switches from Spanish to English or English to Spanish often brought me back and cue me in to where I was in the story. I've listened to a few of those episodes more than once to backtrack and get the Spanish practice.

I recently joined a gym and was using Zombies!Run on the treadmill. I thought, Hmm, this is basically an interactive podcast. I wonder how I would do with the Duolingo podcast at the gym? So, I tried it. In just a few days I've already listened to another 7 episodes! I still wander off a bit. But, it's easier to focus because I can listen while doing something else (working out) and the two activities generally don't compete. So, it's a good combination for me. Additionally, sometimes, I repeat bits of the Spanish out loud while I'm listening. That helps me stay focused too. I'm so excited! ^_^

Anyone else here listen to the Duolingo Spanish podcast at the gym?

That is a great idea! I've used "News in Slow Spanish" at the gym. It's no good for working on machines or lifting weights because I can't count and listen at the same time. But for the treadmill or bike, it's wonderful! It makes the time pass more quickly and keeps my mind off of how tired and bored I am.

Now I can't wait to try the Spanish podcast at the gym - great suggestion.

Even if you aren’t paying attention you’re still learning because it’s like playing in your subconscious. You could listen to podcasts in your sleep and it actually helps.

It might help if I was just reviewing vocabulary I already knew. I think mostly it would disturb my sleep. Maybe others would benefit more from it than I would.

I review learned vocabulary on Memrise before I sleep; sometimes I do this in the night.

I made the same experience.

For me it doesn't have to be the gym but it also helps to do something productive (but not too complex) with my hands while listening.
