सौ sounds similar to "cent" (hundred) in French. Coincidence or common origin?

Most likely common origin, and in fact it's true for a few of the numbers:

दो/deux, सात/sept, आठ/huit, नौ/neuf, दस/dix

It's due to common origin AND coincidence. All the numerals in French, English and Hindi (+ a few hundred other Indo-European languages) are genetically related, but these distant relationships have generally become too blurred to be noticed, except by trained historical linguists. It's only a coincidence if some of these distantly related offshoots of the same roots look more alike than others after millenia of divergence.
