From Turkish. But from French, the number of words is exactly the same : 1397. I think the trees are the same, it depends only on the target language.

What does Chinese tree mean? Does it mean the words mentioned in this app? Beacause ther are certainly more than 1739 chinese characters here in China. By the way, I'm chinese and if anyone wants some help with Chinese, I'll be there :-)

Yes, of course, the number of words indicated above is the number of words you will learn with the duolingo tree. The whole language has much more than 1739 words.

There is wayyyy more than 1739. I think that Duolingo only teaches 1700 ish out of the 370,000 characters out there. But don't worry, you wont need to know all of them to have a decent Chinese conversation.
