Learning Hindi without Devanagari?

Just started out on your Hindi course - the system itself is super cool and I'm enjoying learning with it. My question: I'm not so much interested in learning Devanagari, I rather want to focus on listening and speaking. I.e. for me it would be better if I can always use the English letters instead (e.g. khaana instead of खाना).

Any possibility I can change the settings?

Duolingo doesn't offer courses without the script. I think Memrise has a few (community created) Hindi courses that you can probably try. I am a native Hindi speaker and haven't tried these courses myself but I am finding the Chinese course helpful.

Sorry, but Duolingo doesn’t allow Latin script for Hindi or any language with a non-Latin script like Russian or Hebrew.

Devanagari is fairly easy, logical, and very phonetically reliable. I think going to the trouble to learn to speak Hindi (a huge but worthwhile challenge) and depriving yourself of being able to then read in Devanagari (easy) might really hold you back unnecessarily.

Hindi speakers do write in the Roman alphabet a lot (in text messages, movie titles, etc), but they also use the Devanagari alphabet mostly, so most good resources will be in Devanagari.

It's really worth to learn the Hindi / Devnagari script.

If you just want to learn several 100s of key sentences in different contexts in Hindi without really learning Devnagari - you can try 50languages OR Goethe Verlag.

But if you want it the Duo way. Learn Devnagari and keep Duo happy.
