Unofficial list of members from the one year+ hall of fame - ARCHIVED 8-Mar-2015
The newer post for this hof is here. Started on 8-Mar-2015.
Maintaining a streak is mark of dedication and focus and also of the ability to remain über-connected. Of course, the incentive tends to grow once you cross a threshold of say 100 days. But to be able to maintain the streak through thick and thin is commendable, imho.
The community will benefit, draw inspiration and motivation by being able to find all the members of this club here. (Please check-in below to get listed).

Greetings from Efate, Vanuatu. Surprisingly, I have been able to keep the streak despite travel to remote wilderness areas in over 26 countries including remote parts of Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sweden, Canada, India, Indonesia and many South Pacific Island States. Seems like the whole world is wired in these days even in the remote far corners. Also Duolingo-ing up to 4200 ms on Dochala Pass photographing Monal in Bhutan, and -10 m photographing Kowari in South Australia. Maybe these are Duolingo elevation records ;-) Off to Viti Levu tomorrow, better get off Duolingo and start packing ;-)
Dear hof (hall of fame) members, current and future!
There are quite a few changes this week and that calls for this update:
- First of all, welcome to the "soon to be" members, paulsagra & Trisha1961.
- smearedink in on the brink (499) of reaching the gold level, and wazzie & Paiting for the silver level
- Theognome recently made it to the silver level (406 now)
- RooPuddin has now joined the club - over an year of streak
- And rowaso, zsazsagoulash, swtoby, ych0130517, Wilvandal should be joining around the next update
- MultiLinguAlex (299) is on the verge of joining the "soon to be" list
- Unfortunately endios missed the streak having reached 318. Hope to see endios back here next year.
In other news, it is great to see how many hofers have started learning Dutch. I have added those for whom I found the Dutch levels (>1). If I have missed your Dutch level, please let me know on my stream.
Perhaps Duolingo should consider adding the display of the Dutch levels here, just as they do on the Profile page. That will make it easier.
Lastly, very happy to see the hof grow so nicely. As a result, the updates are taking longer time and that is the reason I have discontinued the mid-week updates. At some point in future, it will be great to have this feature woven into the website. In another 105 days, I should be joining the club. I hope Duolingo builds this feature before I get there :)
I cant wait! 16 more days and I am a soon to be! :-D happy learning! -Spaceowl42
I would like to fully automate it. Would love to hear any ideas you might have!
For now, it does not automate everything. You can run the script in the web developer's console, and it will give you a list like this:<pre>
"Gold" 578 "johnarnold" 576 "christi3" 552 "lesorton" 537 "centime" 536 "JaySilverman" 536 "IG88" 525 "lolaphilologist" 513 "smearedink" "Silver" 494 "ketoacidosis" 478 "jolynnedougherty" 477 "Birdexplorers" ...</pre>
The list has no language flags or levels, just the streak length and user name are shown.
Thanks, anachron! That's a great start. I will try to tweak it to add the bells and whistles :) I might ping you on your stream if I have questions.
The Dutch levels seem to show up sometimes, only in the right place. Though I haven't seen them for a while now, so I'm not sure what's going on with that.
Thank you for the invite. For those of us with multiple languages, it would be good to see our streaks in each language. This used to be a feature. Now it is only visible from the phone app--a nice to have but not must have feature.
yay, it would feel weird if you're not on the list! I think your contribution to the Spanish immersion section is very impressive!! ..you also have the most XPs on my leaderboard! :P
Duo keeps me happy (while I keep the owl happy)... I just reached 300 days. :-)
23 - English
17 - Dutch
16 - Spanish
10 - French
9 - Portuguese, Italian, German
2 - Irish, Danish
(August 26th) Reached level 2 in Irish and Danish. Just to show my support. :)
1 - Swedish
Why not put a list of all the usernames as links (put the username in brackets, then the link next to it in parenthesis and it will make the name into a link) At the top of the main discussion in an edit. Then people can more easily find all the hall of famers. You could also put their longest streak length (only updating once a week or something if its still active).
Hi there! I just wanted to say "thank you" for taking the time to put all of this together, and for gathering all of us here to one place. It really is a fun idea. Thanks!
Sure! We needed a place to celebrate yours and others accomplishments, especially now that you would be among the first ones to cross the 500 day mark by next week.
Thanks for the invite to check in on this thread. I've actually been on the site daily since joining 2013-03-17 but lost the initial streak of something like 45 days by not realizing what was required to maintain it. Ever since I confirm the check mark next to the streak value after qualifying activity. It is surprising how much a person can learn just by showing up every day, even if only to complete a single lesson or duel.
Congratulations to Derailleur, xprochi, and yteri for achieving their 400 day streak! The Silver category now has the bulk of 365ers and the Bronze category has only three. That is until few Soon-to-be's start joining in three days :)
My highest streak was 116 days, but then I went abroad and I lost it... See you in the club in around 9-10 months! :-)
Interesting to hear that lost mountain regions in Bhutan don't seem to be an issue but that good old Germany is :)
Unlucky. I believe Duolingo should allow users to buy more than one streak freeze.
I think we're already lucky to be able to buy just one. Otherwise, what's the point of keeping streaks?
Certain hotels are terrible about their wifi... But often you can just lie to the people at the front desk, say your a premium member or whatever gets you free wifi (even though your not) and they usually dont ask to see proof of it. If they do just say you lost it and walk away.
OR one can say that they belong to the Duolingo one year+ hall of fame and they must continue their streak while they stay with them :)
They would probably get all douchey and say if its that worth it, pay for it. I like free wifi better...
You can be in the soon to be slot ;) And nicely done everybody else, I'm trying but going on multiple trips this summer probably won't allow me to keep up with Duolingo.
Well I cannot believe this but in an instant I lost my streak and so begins the infinite sadness D: Can my name still be up there with like an "R.I.P" to mourn my loss? ;_;
I feel sorry for you. Did you not buy insurance, i.e. invest in streak freeze?
Aww thank you! I really thought that I had bought a streak freeze :/ maybe I accidentally used it before? Anyway, I really appreciate that you kept my name up there! Takes some of the sting out ;)
So does a streak freeze automatically use itself? Because if it does... I can get exactly to a 100 before I have to leave...
Jizzan got his streak back. EvilHoneyBadger bought it from a moderator for around 400 lingots! But I think he doesn't know... D:
Yeah, I just saw that (today was my mom's birthday so we were out and about -- I spent $300 bucks on her :D I'm a good baby lol) I'm pretty speechless about the whole thing actually! Thanks to all involved!
(P.S. I'm a girl )
Moderators (or employees) don't do that kind of trade. Besides, lingots bribery is considered a cyber crime ;)
To answer your other question, I don't think that streak freeze applies itself automatically. One probably has to choose to use it. But, I have not yet run in that situation.
Beast_DJ_Legend: I can't reply to your other post so I'll reply here to your questions about the streak freeze.
At any point anyone can buy a streak freeze in the lingot store for 10 lingots. You can only buy one at a time. Once you have bought it it remains as an insurance until it is used.
Suppose you then forget to use Duolingo all day on Monday. At 23:59 Monday, as the clock ticks over to 00:00, your streak freeze will automatically be used and it will mark you as having practiced on Monday. You will gain an extra day on your streak (without a streak freeze your streak would reset back to zero!). Then on Tuesday when you log in, you will see that your streak freeze has been used and you still have your streak.
If you want to keep your streak after Tuesday then you need to log in and either do a lesson on Tuesday of buy another streak freeze. There is no way to buy more than one streak freeze.
Streak freeze doesn't really gives you an extra day of practice. It just freezes your streak, so that it stays unchanged for the day you don't practise, you just don't lose it. Description from the store: Streak Freeze allows your streak to remain in place for one full day of inactivity.
Sorry JIzzan, I had no way of knowing and I refer to everybody thats gender is unknown to me a guy. sorry I'll try to remember :P
Yes, I know, but I was just asking if it automatically is used or if you have to log in and use it.
I had to wait two days before I comment, so I would have a streak strictly greater than 365 :)
Congrats on your streak! And thanks for exercising patience, you have been officially added to this unofficial list. As you know, we have had a few very aspiring learners who have checked-in much in advance. The community has great expectations from them :)
Thanks! I probably wouldn't have noticed the day my streak passed the 1 year threshold without this thread, because I stopped paying attention to its number a long time ago. After passing the 100 days threshold, my thought process gradually shifted from following my steak number, to "Language learning is something I do every day, just like brushing my teeth", and my streak is just a biproduct of that.
And regarding the very early check-ins, I much prefer beating games within the rules than outside them, because that makes it so much more fulfilling. Posting before my streak was officially more than one year would have made the wait less fun without much to look forward to. My advice to the very aspiring learners is to forget the long term goal and think about the daily routine that needs to be developed to easily (and fruitfully) achieve their long term goal.
Very well said! My intent with this is not to force a mad rush to this hall of fame, but I would like for the community to be able to see the stars in one place.
Due to the long period involved (over a year), achieving this feat is not for those with a feeble mind using shortcuts and gimmicks to achieve it. Having a long streak is a mark of discipline and consistent progress, something that is very much needed for learning new languages.
Hell yea, I'm still in the running! I'll make to a year. Thanks to everybody, I love you!
Well I didn't know there was a Hall of Fame! Can I play? It seems like my English score doesn't show, but I suppose that is not important. =]
And as Vivisaurus has led me to this room (as she leads me in streak days!), may I join the fun as well?
Sure, happy to add you and davidalso :) I have added your English level as well and a lingot for making the entry!
Thanks! Wow, I didn't know I had Spanish and French too. Are you sure those are mine? Did I do those and forget? Where is my mind.
What happens when a 500 member gets to 600 though? Will he be the only gold one and will the rest of the 500 club be demoted to silver? And the 400 club to bronze etc.
One stays for 35 days in the Bronze level, 100 days in the Silver, so I was thinking a 250 day stay in the Gold level would be more appropriate. So that would put Platinum starting at 750 days which will amount to over two year streak. What do you all think?
And beyond that, we will make the future as we go! And no, no demotions planned :)
p.s.: I have just updated the list. I have seen a lot of leveling ups. Great show everyone!
That sounds like a great tier system. I can't wait to be on this list...these are all such dedicated users. Thanks for putting this all together, it's really motivating.
And thanks to you AlexisLinguist, for creating the Golden Owl hall of fame! I personally agree that such "human-powered gamification" as davidcwalls put it recently, further adds to the inherent gamification aspects of Duolingo :)
No, 35 is not a typo:
65 days (ending 364) in the "Soon to be list"
35 days (ending 399) in the Bronze level
100 days (ending 499) in Silver
250 days (ending 749) in Gold (being proposed)
Oh, my mistake then. :) I was thinking the Bronze level was the Soon-to-be level for some reason.
I was inspired by yours, so you're welcome, and thank you in return for the inspiration. :) Just to let you know, I've been thinking further on the reverse trophies, and I'm not sure that it would be the easiest for me to do so, because of the large amount of entries, and several of you have 2+ reverse trees.
I thought of that too, but after that? Sooner or later someone will reach 800 and we're running out of precious metals.
16-Aug update: A lot of progress and movement this week :)
Welcoming ketoacidosis to the gold level!
And rolosrevenge, Druckles, rashtrakut, yonoleo, & ruinchristmas to the silver level! davidalso, davidcwalls, JsuisTony, Davu, & Jizzanthepuss will soon be joining them before the next update.
And Equilibrio99 & Mr.Aaren to the bronze level. Chartreux, VStarTraveler, & kplife will be joining them before the next update.
Welcoming kmandrew & Kortaggio to the club!
Last but not the least, welcoming maggimunro, SpaceOwl42, & Trang. to the 'soon-to-be' list.
Dear fellow hofers,
I have just updated the hof listing. If you find any omissions or errors, please let me know on my stream (and not here)! The reason is that too many comments here make it harder to update the list. That is the main reason that I do not individually respond to the new requests here although I do appreciate each request. I am making an exception today by adding my comment here because I wanted to highlight a few things.
\1. Downvoting: Please resist from downvoting comments here. A few of the comments written by the alums have recently got systematically downvoted, perhaps because the down-voter didn't see a health streak against the alum's comment. This makes it harder to find them to update their language levels.
\2. Duplicated comments: A few of the recent comments have got posted twice, thrice or even four times. That is primarily because this bulky page takes a considerable time to refresh. So please click on the "Post" button only once. That is assuming that you really need to post something here :) Avoid any unnecessary comments please!
\3. Order of comments: If possible let the order of comments remain the way it is. This helps me with updating. When the comments move around, it becomes harder to reconcile.
\4. Automation: Lastly the reason I have not automated this list is because: 1. The levels are still not correct for a few languages/entries. 2. And automation needs a considerable work (I would like to maintain the Alumni listing and that needs a complex logic). But some day, we will get there!
@jitengore: I noticed that the languages presented here are the following: French, Portuguese, German, Italian, and Spanish. Now, what about English? I have completed the English tree (Level 25) in a period of 35 days, albeit under the username, "proftherese". Will English also be included here? Apparently, your "discussion" does not appear on the English Program Discussion and am not able to post a comment under my other username, proftherese. https://www.duolingo.com/marie.valarao https://www.duolingo.com/proftherese
If you are using another username (proftherese), then Duolingo cannot show all your languages together. Even if you were learning English on this account, there is a current limitation that will prevent English from showing up here with the rest of your five languages, for which, you have reached the highest levels - quite impressive!
This discussion was posted on English forum. You should be able to look it up by going to the web page address (shown in your browser) while you are signed up as the other user.
I feel compelled to add a special entry for someone who has just reached a streak of 200 (not the needed 300), but has reached level 25 in six languages. Well done!
Wow! 6 languages and level 25? Amazing! Have a lingot! Happy learning! -Spaceowl42
tfagan, there are two reasons I have not added people to the list if they have not checked-in here by themselves.
This gives them control on whether their name should or should not be listed on such a public list.
Secondly, I plan to keep the list updated at least once a week or more. Having their entry here makes this job easier for me as well as for the readers of this post.
Does it make sense?
Thanks, that makes sense. There were a number of others who had been added, and I didn't catch that all of them had responded, so I was just afraid that the earlier note had gotten lost in the replies. Great job, and carry on!
Hey, that's a Keepon! I have one looking at me in my living room right now. Looks just like you. =]
You have been officially added to the unofficial list :)
A few interesting milestones are coming up...
- johnarnold and christi3 are on the verge of crossing the 500 mark!
- jolynnedougherty, adrianojp2000, Birdexplorers, klariet, and Yglen are at the brink of their 400 mark!
- Derailleur is set to join the club in five days!
As you'll notice when doing the next update, I have lost my streak. The perils of going on vacation while not owning a smart device :-) The last day I practiced was 8/17 but I had a freeze so it didn't reset till 8/19. It was at 455.
Sorry to hear that! Wilvandal seems to be in the same boat as you. I will reflect that in my update later today. Now with bf2010, you, and Wilvandal, we have an alumni club for this hall of fame.
"Been there, done that" club :)
sorry to see that! I still think it would be great if your profile could show the 'highest historical streak', but I know there are more important things on the wish list! We know you were there, anyway!
yonoleo, you are in! You might be the first incubator course guy to have checked-in. FrankySka wants to wait another forty days, before she joins. A few others have the same thinking, which is also understandable.
exactly. Let my make my year full first - I think I should be done independence day! haha
I'm not waiting for anything. 317 is enough to celebrate. Plus, I have this thing on autopilot, I am not jinxing anything. (No tricks, I'm just saying that coming here every day is part of my daily routine.)
Wow I made it to Gold. Just need the other 2 to step aside now (christi3 and johnarnold) ;-)
And in the same spirit...
You would not want any other 'Gold' members who might be out there to decide to show up here ;-)
Helloo guys, I have a streak of 235 days. Learning German and reinforcing my French. Please add me to this champ list! Cheers
Well, looks like I just hit bronze level. Hello from Western Australia where I am currently learning French and Italian via duolingo, and Scottish Gaelic in more face to face and with some books. (I thought about looking at Irish but it's sometimes the similarities that are more of a problem than differences). 366 today.
I have finished the Spanish Tree and 311consecutive days. I think Duolingo is a great opportunity and one of the best things I have ever accomplished from a learning standpoint and I have been around for seventy years. Thanks Richard LaFleshe
Must be a hell of a lot of work maintaining this thing. I make it a point to give you a lingot every time I view this thread.
Thanks for your kind words and kind action! Lingots to you too for being so nice! Over time, I have developed a workflow that facilitates the update.
I still have to incorporate anachron's script to automate the process. One of the reason I am delaying that is because the levels are still not shown consistently. For example:
- @fantomitzah has level 12 in Dutch, but on this page next to fantomitzah's comment we see a level 9.
- lolaphilologist shows up with Dutch level 2 against her comment and level 4 on her profile page.
- I have level 5 in Dutch, but that does not show up here against my comments at all.
btw, this week, while I have updated everyone'e streaks, I was not exhaustive with updating the language levels. Once, Duolingo provides consistency (or when I understand what is driving this behavior), that will help!
yup, a big pat on the back from all of us!
Just a few hours out from hitting 365. I am ready!
Update (Sept 1st):
Bonne chance à tout le monde ;)
Thanks! I see you are at 347 so you are getting close to the milestone too! I guess your streak survived your vacation.....mine barely did--no computer internet for 4 of the 7 days I rented a house on the beach. Good thing I had a smartphone.
As you already recognized, I haven't barely been online for some weeks now due to stress and it was pretty tough to maintain the streak; I also had to use several streak freezes. I'm still very stressed right now, but it's okay. I'm glad you're maintaining your top notch-streak =)
I hope whatever is generating that stress can give you some relief. Hang in there. You have friends who care.
So, I'm a bit of a number nerd. I noticed that my name seemed to be on an island. There really isn't a user who's streak is close to mine. My streak is 448 days. The closes above mine is 14 days away at 462, and the one closest below mine is 12 days away at 436.
I looked to see if anyone else was in the same boat as me, and found two other users who had it worse: lesorton (streak of 587) who is surrounded by 24 days above and 16 below and lolaphilologist who is surroounded by 12 days and 22 days.
The two other people are 'gold' members, so it is bit expected, but I still think mine is a bit of an oddball.
(These were based off the top 10 difference on both sides, meaning, both the above and below values were in the top 10 largest difference)
Next I looked at who had the greatest total of days different from users around them, and made a quick top 10:
587 lesorton - 40 total days
558 lolaphilologist - 34 total days
536 garrettowne - 29 total days
611 christi3 - 26 total days
448 wazzie - 26 total days
(streak values taken on 9-20-14)
davidbohardt is 1k xp away from 700k xp he should get some kind of award for pursuing the language he wants to learn so intensely.
I must say I'm pretty impressed with the amount of people who've been on here for +400 days!
marie.valarao / proftherese: What a great and motivating connection. Please count me in. Thanks!
Thanks for the invite. Was doing the math yesterday and hope to at least finish my Spanish tree before the year is up. The French will take longer, but at least have the streak :)
Idle curiosity, does the streak freeze work on all your languages or just one?
Technically, it doesn't protect any of the individual language streaks. But, generally, the overall is the only one you see (web and iOS) and if android currently show individual streaks, they will probably change it soon.
Thanks...Yeah, Android still shows individual streaks. I do wish you get individusal streaks because I intend to start a couple more languages...will be good to follow the streaks on those too.
Welcome to the newest member, ych0130517 to the 300+ list. Also version 2 of the Hall of fame listing is now out! Comments welcome :)
You are now part of an unpublished watchlist which will trigger your entry in 80 days. It's all up to you now :)
Awesome! Thanks so much! I will not let you down! ;-D Happy learning! -SpaceOwl42
A mi me ha salvado más de una vez el protector de racha pero ya me veo llegando también a 302!
Chartreux, welcome to the 300 club!
A note to all: I just completed the weekly update of the list. I will continue to update this list once a week. And when there are any milestones achieved, I will try to do a minor update.
Three milestones that are coming up:
- lesorton is due to have a gold membership (500) in 3 days
- SamirShaker to due to have a silver membership (400) in a day
- wazzie is going to join the Hall of Fame (365) in 8 days, that will probably happen at the time of the next major update.
Great job, Jitengore! It's very interesting for people to see how many "old timers" are actually hanging in there. Is there any way of finding out how many people actually have finished their tree? That would be an interesting statistic. Again, thanks! I'll have to order my club jacket ;)p
jitengore: many thanks for maintaining this, it makes me feel ever so proud!
I will be happy to add you in 31 days :)
I will have to wait longer to add myself!
Hi guys, I will definitely reach the magical number 300 in 37 days. I'm just not sure about 365 days, though due to holidays in the summer.
- Edit 1: I reached my 365-day streak on October 4, 2014.
- Edit 2: I reached my 400-day streak on November 8, 2014.
- Edit 3: I finished my French for Germans tree on December 12, 2014.
- Edit 4: I've become a contributor to the EN<->DE courses on February 9, 2015.
- Edit 5: I reached my 500-day streak on February 16, 2015.
Use the app. That's how I survived trips to Portugal, Canada, and Saudi Arabia for my year streak. It helps that Tmobile has free international data roaming.
Therefore I need a phone with access to the Internet, therefore I need money which I clearly don't have right now... But my vacation is almost over right now and I will surely make it to 365 days at least =)
I can appreciate that. I only recently moved to an android phone less than a year ago.
Congratulations to you! I am also happy to add my two friends from the incubator family :)
I just spoke to my wife, Knoxienne, and she'd like to be added. She has completed all of the language trees and tomorrow will reach her 300th flame streak.
Congratulations to her! Please ask her to add a comment here. That makes is possible to maintain the list in the future.
You might well be the first husband-wife team to join the board :)
Hold on there! Vivisaurus and I are married and joining the list now, too! But we're happy to share the title. ;)
And tomorrow you will be the first married couple who will both have reached a 365-day streak. Pretty impressive =)
I am on the last lap! the streak count has really helped motivation, thanks DL!
Hi, I reached 300 days today, so does that get me on the 'soon to be' list? Hope so...and looking forward to doing many more days with Duolingo.
I'm almost half-way to appear in the "Soon to be's" list :-)
See you there in around 5 months!
Hello, could you please add me to Soon to be's? I hope I will have streak over 300 days before the next update:-)
I predict it will be in 100 days. :-) (Congratulations on getting to 200 days by the way.)
mtravels has a streak of 598, two days of the top spot. Doesn't he want to be added?
Yes, I have added only those who have consented by adding their comment here.
I've been watching this for a while. It's been a great motivator. I finally made it above 300 the other day :)
Wow. I didn't know there were so many folks with with long streaks. Pretty cool. :)
Add me to the list next time you update please. I never thought I'd make it to the one year mark but I'm getting pretty close now.
One year seems to be a lot of time. But when you are there, it seems you could have done more...
Hi RooPuddin, it is nice to see she gets her name from you :) Congrats to her. Please have her comment on this post. Without a reference on this post, I cannot keep the list updated.
And thanks for the cheer!
Hi there jitengore. I'd be delighted to be added to the soon-to-be's and thanks for keeping the list. It's a real incentive and I feel honoured to be part of it. :)
Just want to thank Jitengore once again for all your hard work maintaining this part of the site. It's no easy task, yet provides us with so much enjoyment and motivation. Thanks so much.
Hi, been looking forward to this day. Can you add me to the "Soon to be's" please.
With the list becoming as long as it has, wouldn't it be easier to just update it once every two weeks?
I had delayed the complete automation for updating this list so far. It seems that now I need to take on that project :)
Surprisingly, a few check-ins have got down voted from 6 to 5, from 5 to 4. I fail to understand the motivation of the down-voters, but this changes the sort order and until I improve upon the level of automation, things get tricky. This is part of the reason for the current delay :(
A gift horse and all...
You don't need to explain yourself, the rest of us appreciate the effort you put into it.
Anyway, Jitengore, thanks for this list! Can you please wait two weeks then add me to the silver class? :) Happy New Year!
Count me in; and I agree with johnarnold to show the streams in different languages. By the way, what happens to people who interrupt their streak for a couple of days, do they get kicked out of the hall of fame ? ;)
Wow! Well done to everyone who's been able to keep their streaks up for so long!
I just passed the one year mark. At least one lesson is now just part of my daily routine.
Congratulations! I will include your entry when I do a minor (partial) update later today. (Shoutout to kplife too)!
Oh God! I thought I was "undefeatable" and... I've found this list! hahaha... Now I do have a reason to work even harder! ;)
Enjoy the restoration of your gold level. Please consider getting a streak freeze for future. :)
What the? Yes it would seem my streak has been mostly returned by the powers that be. I think 500 instead of 529 was added to my current small streak but I won't complain. ;) Thanks, powers that be.
As promised I tried to help from my side. Consider this as a perk for being a part of this hall of fame :)
But I think I might have run out of 'goodwill' hearts from the "powers that be". :) I may not be able to help anyone else in the future. So everyone, please get your streak freezes and replenish them if & when you use one!
Also keep the broader perspective in mind - we are primarily here to learn new languages! And the learning continues, with or without a streak.
Just in case it helps, it happened to me because I inadvertently changed by base language. Restored ok when I figured out what had happened.
No, wasn't that. There was some issue for the past few months where my streak seemed to roll over at a different time than my daily points, so maybe it was related to that. Anyway, my daily points still say I've got points every day, but my streak got set to zero.
Sorry to hear that! Please email support with the chart showing daily points to see what they can do to help.
Let me see what I can do from my side.
The Duolingo staff knows each and every time you earn points. Just emailing them would be fine. The problem with the chart is that it syncs with your local computer's time. This means if you finish a skill at 1205, and then set you clock back 10 minutes, the point graph will look like you studied every day, but you will lose your streak.
I'm not saying this is what happen with smearedink. To me it sounds like their timezone isn't set to their current time zone. I'm just saying that the points graph doesn't prove anything, and wouldn't be good evidence (especially since DL seems to reliably track the info anyway).
Same thing happened to me. But I have been so busy, that I thought that maybe I just lost track of time.
oh! Now we are in the same situation! but I think you are strong enough to overcome this, my dear friend!
Ah, thanks Wei. It's okay. Having a streak doesn't really mean much anyway except for earning extra lingots and I have 879 lingots that I'll never use anyway.
The easiest way to solve something like that is to have the streak freeze.
I refused to get streak freeze because I didn't want a streak that wasn't real. But if I'd thought there was a chance of a computer error ending my streak, I may have reconsidered. Ah well, life goes on.
Yeah, I've traveled a lot (to Europe and Saudi Arabia) and the Streak Freeze has been good insurance for the time zone changes. I've noticed that the App won't always be synced with my computer clock and start a new day several hours earlier than my actual time zone. I've never actually missed a day but on a few long haul flight days it thought I had but the streak freeze saved me.
I learnt my lesson at 38 day streak -I lost wifi for an hr at 11:30 pm whilst on holiday so lost the streak. Bought the freeze as insurance but have never used it (so far) and hope to be 365 in 20 days - whoop!
I would have been more accepting of that, though. At least you know you went past midnight, even if the situation got out of your control. (In other words, at least yours makes sense!)
I had purchased the streak freeze and it still didn't matter. I'm sure I didn't go two days without working on a skill. But like I said, I was very busy, so I'm not certain.
I have used the streak freeze a couple of times but I have found that if I get it... I need it and I forget to practice Spanish, but if I don't get it... I don't need it. So ever sense the last time I bought a streak freeze I have never forgotten to practice Spanish or nothing has happened that I had to lose my streak! So I have thought about it sometimes because I have so many lingots that maybe it's a good Idea to get a streak freezer just in case, but if I get it... I need it! So I only get streak freezers if I really really need it. :-D
Happy learning! -Spaceowl42
Wait, you have to buy a new streak freeze every time you use it? Maybe I've never used it then.
@rolosrevenge (ran out of reply buttons)
Yes... Once you buy it you have it until you skip one day after one day you have to buy another one... If you buy it but don't skip a day then you can save it for later. But it is only good for one day.
Hopefully I'll still be here at the next update, so please add me to the list.
This is a great list! I am amazed how many there are that are way ahead of me. Congrats to all those who have done such consistent work! John Arnold - you are a star!
I would love to enrol in this Hall of Fame!
I lost my 400 day streak a couple weeks ago, but I'm back now, and still learning German! I never realized there were so many with such long streaks! Thanks for all your information - it's fascinating!
Did you lose it just when they switched over to the coach? Well, I think that was more than a couple of weeks ago, so probably not.
I lost my streak several months ago, and have not been very regular since. But I love learning languages and I have learned a lot of German on Duolingo. If I ever get through German I would like to learn Spanish. I have been a member of Duolingo since January, 2013. Congratulations on your long streak. You are an inspiration! Maybe I can do it again.
Anne, there was a glitch when they implemented the coach. If you were regularly practicing (even just a few points a day) and you lost your streak at that time, they can restore it. Well, I guess it's late now anyway, if you've been on and off since then. It's kind of sad though. :( But you're right -- you can do it again. Make it a habit. And btw (by the way) you're an inspiration too! I read your profile page and I'm impressed. :)
It's funny that 374 days later I would only quality for bronze. It's amazing how long we've all been faithfully plugging away and learning :)
This is great, but I'm not included in this extensive list...great job everyone with the streaks!!
Hi, I just passed the 500 mark. Could you please insert me in the "Hall of Owl Fame"?
If your list has not become unsustainably long I would love to join. Funny that something as private as quietly learning a language can also be something so public!
639 days in an amazing effort of doing anything let alone learning something useful. Amazing dedication and well done to all on this list.
Hi jitengore, can you add me to the list next time you update the post? Thanks!
Thanks for the comments, which are really helpful. Yes, once I realised by turning on the coach in 5 languages I was losing my streak, I kept it on for the other three (I know, it really shouldn't have taken me 5 times to realise that!). So that is how I have kept my 407 day streak! It's a shame to lose the progress bar as well, as just knowing you were short of a going up a level, certainly kept up the motivation. It would be a shame to see this 'streak' thread disappear because of the new coach, as it's really good to see how many people enjoy getting up the streak ladder! Once again Jitengore, thanks for your dedication in maintaining this - it's such hard work, but well worth it.
I only recently learned about this list, but it would be nice if i could be added to it :-)
Can you please add me? Thanks... that platinum looks mighty tantalising!
Have completed my 375 day Streak and loving every day. My Goal is Platinum and being Spanish fluent. Thank you Duo lingo.
I'm at a 318 day streak and I'm definitely making it to 365! :-)
Thank you for putting this together jitengore.
Hi! I'm happy I finally made it to the soon-to-be's! Could you please add me? :-)
As of December 20, 2014, I have a 339 day streak with 479 lingots . . . 6340 points and 1095 words. I started Duolingo Italian on January 1, 2014 . . . but was able to skip a few days using lingots. About a month ago I decided to stop doing new lessons until I could make it through the older lessons in Timed Practice, so pretty much started over, but it's been worth it. I wish I felt more confident and able to actually speak/think in Italian; I'm definitely not close to that. Still seems worth doing regular practice even if it is only for a brief time every day.
I'm in! Whoo-oo! Thanks to duo for keeping the site running smoothly enough for me to practice every day!
I am surprised to see that I am not on this list, but I am on day 553 in a row.
The list isn't exhaustive. But you really deserve to be on the golden one. I know that you work a lot everyday. I support you because you are a great example. ;-) Congratulation !
Thanks so much for your kind words and for supporting me! Have a lingot on me. It's the least I can do.
The list isn't automatically generated - jitengore curates and maintains it and only adds people who check in or ask to be included. You should be added in the next update now that you've posted here.
Thank you! I did not know this until looking at it more extensively. I thought it may be generated at first because I did not know if jitengore would go through all the work of updating it, but it seems that they do. That alone is very impressive.
It's official: my first 365 day streak. 12/29/2014 NYC time. (NYC is where I registered, so DL clocks me in there, no matter which time zone I'm in. Which is no big deal as long as you know the difference.)
Once I lost my streak due to travel... I had even paid Sykpe money so that I could work during a stopover in the Amsterdam airport, but it didn't work and I lost my streak. I reported it as a problem and asked them to restore it, but they never answered (now I know the "report a problem" tab has some automated filters). I was so upset I quit DL! If it weren't for that boycott I'd be in the high 500s, I think... joined in May 2012.
Sorry to hear that, that must've been pretty disturbing. If such a thing is about to happen again, you can ask bchan whether she will be able to restore your streak (in fact, she did that with numerous users against lingots).
Yeah, now I know whom to bug! I had only been on DL a couple of months when that happened though. It's just funny how much something unimportant (fairness in the gaming aspect of DL) can acquire importance. Our real goal here is learning languages, not showing off our seniority. :)
Thanks again for the work jitengore , happy new year!
Tomorrow, Sunday, January 12, 2015, is my big day for 365! Thanks Duolingo, you all rock. Ciao, Ciao.
Nice to know there are so many other dedicated Duolinguists! I've been trying hard to keep my streak going. It'd be even longer had the streak freeze been around when my current streak started (I'm pretty sure I had well over a hundred day streak going before this one). Still, I'm here to learn, not to watch a number go up (though it's a nice bit of additional motivation on my lazier days).
Humbly requesting addition to the list, if I may. Figured it might help with the motivation henceforth. Many thanks!
Had to work in a different place and I forgot to maintain it. But it's ok : ) thank you!
I agree with Usagi. Two more lingots for being so cool about it and reminding that streak is merely a secondary gamification feature to the profound learning experience.
Having said that, we would like to see you back soon :)
The important thing is that we learn things ; ), wish you all the luck with your streak!
T-T im so sad on your behalf, but so inspired by your poise :D three cheers for Wilvandal! (And three lingots)
thanks usagi, but i am not sad at all, my goal was to maintain my streak for a year, and i've achieved it! so this is just another start of a trip.
Congrats on achieving a year long streak! have three lingots for your achievement! :-D
Awesome;)I would like to join to the SilverClub and to the Golden ones in the future;) Thank you for creating this list:P
This owl is ready for the Soon to be's!!!!!! :-D HOO HOO!!!! ;-D Thanks for making the list! ;-D
Hi!! I am not quite at a year .... but I see that there is a category for 'Soon to be'. Could you add me to that list please? Thanks!! This is a great incentive - and it all helps to keep one on track.
Astounding the streak that some people have ... what staying power!
Hello, I am just a little confused with the 'Coach' now. Does that mean the normal streak will disappear? I stupidly turned it on for a couple of the languages I am learning, and now it just says my streak is two days (rather than 407) and I can't turn the coach back off. I did not continue to activate it for the other languages once I found that out....do you know therefore whether the long streaks people have will now disappear?
From this view it looks like you have a streak of 407. Maybe it has been restored. The coach is not per language ... if you set it to 50 in any language you need to get at least 50 XP every day from the sum of XP on all languages else you lose your streak. eg 30 XP for French + 20 XP for Spanish will give you 50 XP, and you will make your streak for that day.
Under "marie.valarao" I have 388 streaks for the Bronze and the Alumni levels. Under "proftherese" I have 306 streaks qualifying for the Soon-to-Be. Thanks, jitengore!
Just hit my 400th day steak, I guess I get to move up to Silver. Gold here I come. Spanish is getting better everyday and I'm loving it more and more. Thank you Duolingo you're the Best!
Please count me in! currently in a 436 streak. I hope I can maintain it for another year or so:)
I just hit my one year streak yesterday. I would be honored to be added to the roll here, if I may so humbly make that request.
When you update the list could you please add me? (I'm currently on a 402 day streak). Thank you and thank you for the work you put into maintaining this list.
I'd be jazzed if you could place me on the "Soon to be's" List! (300-364). As of February 1, 2014, I've been on Duolingo for 291 days! I will have surpassed the 300-day mark by the first week of March when you update the list. Thank you so much for all the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze title holders who inspire me to keep learning more foreign languages! Well done!
Hi jitengore! I ask you to add me to your list, please. Today I got 632 days! Thanks.
Hey jitengore! I guess now that I've reached my goal of 6x25 you can pencil me in here if you want. :D
swtoby, that is a great accomplishment! You are the only second person I know with a '6x25'. I will include you when I update the list later today.
Wow! 6 languages and level 25 on all of them!?!? Amazing! :-D Have a lingot! Happy learning! -Spaceowl42
So I lost my over 300 days streak. My vacations were really intense and one day I was just so tired I forgot to Duolingo (streak freeze was already used). Tough luck. Hope to be there next year :)
That's sad; I still think it would be great if your personal highest streak showed somewhere in your profile, just to prove you'd been there! Good luck with your next streak!
If it doesn't inconvenience you, I would love to be added to the year+ hall of fame. :)
You might have completed an year on Duolingo but on this hall of fame we use the streak to measure the length of continuous learning. So perhaps next year, you can make it!
Ohhhhh. Rats I may never make it then! I'm so terrible at keeping streaks but I'll try my absolute best. :)
It's so easy once you make a habit of it; do it first thing when you wake up. I have a student who does it on her phone (which also serves as her alarm) before she even gets out of bed.
Not that we are aware of. The first one will probably be johnarnold.
Edit: John Arnold is indeed the first one. (January 28, 2015)
I noticed I'm not in the alumni section. I actually lost my streak right after reaching 365 days (on December 30 or 31, if I remember correctly), though I guess it must have happened between updates, so it went unnoticed.
...but as you can see, you are added as an alumni as of today (January 7, 2015). =)
I would love to be added the next time this list is updated... I recently passed the 400 day mark. Thanks, Jitengore, for all the work maintaining the list!
Hi guys, I am ecstatic to reach the one year streak milestone as the first attempt failed when I was travelling in an area that I could not get the Internet connection. Please add me to the list!
Hi, Greetings from sunny Australia. Today marks my 365 day streak which means I have now been learning french for 366 days. Amazed and somewhat daunted by how far I still have to go.
Thanks for maintaining this list. The motivation it provides is quite surprising and makes me laugh at some of the rescheduling I do to make sure I get in my DL for the day.
Finally got to one year, I remember seeing that post 9 months ago and hoping that maybe one day I'll be here :) Can I be added to the list, please? Thanks in advance :)
Hello! I've been following this discussion for a long time; now you can add me. 370 days so far :)
So how does one get into the list? :) English is for Romanian>English.
Doing what you just did (posting here). It looks like the next update update will happen the first week of March, and you should be added then!
I am now only 15 days away, and hopefully I will be turning the year-mark around the 8th of March this year! Thanks, Duolingo, for making it so easy and fun to do something every single day for a whole year!
Well, today I reached the 365-day mark, and I couldn't be happier. Seeing that number next to the little flame go up every day is all the motivation I need!
It's probably a glitch with all the stuff going on on this page. I see it almost every time someone post a new comment.
All these people with hundreds of days and I'm sitting here with 50. :-(
Never lost my streak though.
I'm approaching to the 365 days mark, I should enter in the list soon:) You did a very good work with this Hall of Fame!
Hi there, I just completed my one-year streak! I would love to be added to the list. Thank you!
Please count me in. I have a long trip later this month and a bit nervous I'll lose the streak.... wish me luck. Thanks!
I've now completed 365 days. If only there was some way of marking this achievement.
Hi Jiten! It's my Duoversary – please add me to your illustrious list! Thanks in advance. PS as for levels, my English level varies back and forth between 13 and 19 :D
I would love to be a part of this, don't know if I qualify though, have a pretty high overall score from my combined languages. Let me know!
next update is on or after 20th - see above :-)
Is the update automatic? If so, I should have been in the 300+ group on December 6th. (Which is why I just posted all my info.) The main post could be more clear about whether we need to request to be included or if the lists are automatically generated. Thanks to jitengore for doing this!
nope, jitengore is a star maintaining the list .
