German Basic

Dictation: unable to distinguish between ihr and er ; both sound like "ear" to me - also liest and lest so (ihr lest) also sounds like (er liest). Any clues to distinguish the sounds with no written words available during dictation. ???????

ihr sounds like ear, but er sounds more like air. liest equals leased and lest contains just the sound of "a" not of "e"

You should be able to choose which one is correct due to the context of the sentence. Ihr is the plural second person pronoun, where Er is the singular third person.
