You should use only "pagar" or "pagar por" (in this case, pagar pela. Pela = por+ a)
Paul, I used pagar por and was marked wrong. I am not sure I understand your note. Is pagar por truly wrong, and if so, why, please?
"Pagar por" is right and should be accepted. But "por + a = pela", so it is "A mulher paga pela bebida".
So paga por = "pay for"...while... pela = "pay for the". Is that correct? Thank you for the help.
