Insane streak mystery
Looks like clintjterry and hillmarcia are both in "¿Seriously? (2190+)" day streak section. :D (I love how they said "Seriously" :P)
Looks cool and all, but both of their names are crossed off.
What does this mean? I thought it meant their accounts were removed, but they still have their streaks!
I made a post asking about hillmarcia's streak. Their streak is like 7 years, but their account was created 5 years ago... https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/29216663
Also, clintjterry created their profile 5 years ago with a 7 year streak...they also appeared out of nowhere. Does this mean they hadn't signed up on duome until then?
Questions, questions, and questions. Not enough answers. Feel free to comment!
(P.S Many posts I make get a lot of down votes, so if this does, I don't really mind. :/)
If I had to guess, I'd say it was a glitch/bug/whatever its called.
You have been upvoted by the powers of reverse psychology :)
Why thank you! Yes, maybe a glitch? If so, why has duolingo not removed their huge streaks to the ones the are supposed to be?
Ah, you sound like a member of a tribal group in the Great Plains of the USA. We call them the Contraries. Lakota tribe called them the heyoka, that translates as clown or opposites. A Contrary performed a social role that did things the opposite of other members. They went so far as to engage in inverse speech, hello meant goodbye.
I was trying to inject something about languages in this streak conversation of great social import.
Me too. The way the 'social' part of Duolingo is set up encourages hooliganism.
I have been puzzled by hillmarcia's streak for a while, and now clintjterry joins hillmarcia in a strange phenomenon of a streak longer than Duolingo has been around.
(By the way, their name crossed out only means that they've requested not to be on duome.eu, not that their account is deleted.)
Duolingo was first built in 2011 but, not open to the public. I wonder if they were one of those early beta testers. (Or perhaps, even an alpha tester.)
Duolingo started its private beta on November 30, 2011, and accumulated a waiting list of more than 300,000 users. On June 19, 2012, Duolingo launched for the general public.
The duolingo voting system encoyurages divisiveness. I don't use it, and have no interest in whether people up-vote or down-vote me.
Ha, ha that's a funny way of putting it. At least they can't put something in a paper bag and lighting it before running away...
Complaining about down votes is like being a down vote magnet. Trolls use down vote as a mechanism to evoke an emotional response like complaining about it. Easy game to play. Easy to stop by ignoring it and not feeding into the game.
Do you know if it’s a real streak or does it just say that. Meaning anyone can buy streak freezes and weekend passes and streak repairs. I never thought I would but I have. So when I see streaks I am not impressed because almost all of them aren’t really a streak after all. There are a few that are though. You would have to look under their name at dueme.eu/theirusername/progress and it will tell you if and when they used a streak freeze. It it’s not there then look up the same website but omit /progress.
Yeah. I have never used a streak freeze. I have a streak. Others use streak freezes. I don't.
You still don't know for sure that it's not a streak, though. I've used Streak Freezes when I've been out of phone signal range (I'm rather prone to hopping off sailing, and there's often not a lot of coverage out there on the High Seas...).
I learnt about them the hard way this summer- I'd dropped anchor in a quaint little river-mouth miles from civilisation and done my exercises thinking everything was fine, but it turns out my phone hadn't connected and I didn't find out about it until I got back. So yeah, I have Streak Freezes equipped ever since, and they get used up when I can't connect. But I always make sure I do at least one unit of practice every day, online or off. First New Year's resolution I've actually kept!
I have a member in my club who is over 1700 day streak. It was the highest I had ever seen or heard of. I didn't know your streak gets doubled if you pay more than once. Interesting. If I was studying a language for 5 years, I don't think I would need Duolingo anymore. I would've been more advanced and probably find other ways of studying but Idk. I just started studying one language about 9 months now. Studying the last checkpoint is like sweating blood.
