Immersion section - Text selection

Hi everybody!
I would like to ask how the texts for this section are selected? I like translating articles from German to English, but i wonder if anyone would like to read these examples because a huge number of the articles are pretty 'contentless'. So what exactly is the benefit? Is the translation of single sentences used to translate other texts?

I agree totally. Is it/would it be possible to select text ourselves?

You may have presented a germ of an idea in your last question. On the other hand, Duolingo may already be employing that mechanism of using snippets of sentences, or whole sentences in constructing translated web content.
