WHY was it necessary to change the skill tree in learning French ??????????

There I was happily working my way through learning French and without warning the skill tree changes, crowns lost and now my skill tree no longer reflects or resembles the hours put in or anything done in the past.

WHY WHY WHY was this necessary ?

To rebild I must go back to the beginning and start again !!!

There is no structure in the new tree and nothing of my completed past lessons are showing to say I am unhappy would be an understatement

Today, some folks were accidentally switched to a different version of the French Tree. Staff alerted mods and told us that folks should be switch back now.

Some users were accidentally changed to a new tree temporarily. This should be fixed now and you should be back to the tree you had before.

I actually liked the switch... so I could try some new grammar lessons, but now it is back to my old lesson tree. Very frustrating.

@Tom690367

You can signup with a new user account. Very likely will you get then Tree V4.

If the new tree turns out to be an improvement on the old one after testing, you'll no doubt be switched to it sooner or later. But for the most part the content will be the same, the main changes will be in the order words and grammar are taught and what sentences are used to teach them - mostly the same words and the same grammar points will be taught.

I guess its back to the drawing board and start again. Had I upgraded and paid I would be demanding a full refund at this point.

lol, I don't think I would go that far, but at the same time I guess it's motivating you to get back to where you were in the first place?

SAME! That happened to me as soon as I logged on! :(

Days learning should read 47 not 7

What the 9 represents is anyone's guess but certainly was not where I was using the old tree.

Congratulations on demotivating us......!!!!!!!!!!

The 9 represents your current level, based upon the number of experience points you've gained within French. That number shouldn't change when they screw with your tree.

BTW, even if your tree has been returned to the V2 tree, they have announced that they're planning on converting everyone to V4 sometime next year. The only reason they haven't done so yet is that they're trying to make the conversion less painful.

Why do you want the new tree? More skills. More words. And from what I understand, they're trying to get the people who have finished the tree to the A1 language knowledge level (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languages).

My medium term goal is to take the DELF A1 exam (http://www.ciep.fr/en/delf-dalf) in Atlanta. (Short term has to do with completing Duolingo & Pimsleur.) So the growth in the tree is appreciated by me.

The 9 represents the number of days on a streak not current level. In fact it should read 49 so still wrong !

Yawn

Isnt your crown your current level??

I mean, if you dont like the website, you could use another, I mean just sayin'...

@CupcakeFuz

Depends.

There also is the total crowns number per course.

I heard that staff has eventually removed the language levels 1-25 from the recent Android mobile app versions.

This level was/is strictly based on XPs (level 25 = 30.000XP) and has basically nothing to do with crowns.

Reason: You can PRACTICE skills based on reviews on XP which won't level your crown skills up and also do not start any "crown sessions" (lessons).

Crowns are a random repetition of words and sentences and has not something to do with reviews within defined spaced repetition (SR) intervals.

Memrise for example adds the 4h + 12h short-term review intervals.

AnkiSRS uses "1 day" as the first review interval (or 3d/4d for easy) after you have learned a flashcard.

That's it not doing anymore tonight !! I'm too angry to concentrate now.

ha, I'm honestly not to upset about it bc I feel like I'm going to get more exp if I grind trying to get back to where I was. I cheat a bit with my mom too on the test(s) to skip around in the course level, she's Senegalese, but if you know they speak French so she's more of a tutor :P

It shouldn't be happening anymore at all.

I noticed that today mine said "Notice something different? We’ve updated your skill tree to teach you French more effectively." or something like that. The funny thing is that I don't really see any difference. I checked duome and I'm still with Version 3. I don't really understand what is going on.

My goal is to finish the tree at 1 Crown before the switch to the new tree next year. According to my spreadsheet, I can do it by the end of the year if I complete five new lessons per day.

(For those who want to tell me that I'll lose my old skills during that time, I'm also doing reviews. They just don't help me complete the tree.)

Wow, that wasn't sounding good. If this happens to other languages, you should contact them about this situation and they can improve
