This sentence is a bit unnatural. This should say in English: The revolution began from the prison.

There no such thing in English as "was begun". Maybe in old English. "Has begun" or simply "begun" has a rather natural feel to it.

I'm not sure that "was begun" is ungrammatical, though it does sound awkward. "Was started" is better.
