Is Duolingo worth it if my life doesn't permit me to keep a "streak" going?

I've been doing duolingo for the past few weeks, and see that it's all about "streaks." I even tried a "wager" and got close, but with family considerations couldn't keep it up. I'm very frustrated because the site has me focused on the importance of "streaks."

Is Duolingo really worth it if regular life considerations mean I can't do a "streak" - or should I try something else?

If the point of your use of Duolingo is to learn a language, then streaks, lingots, and every other gamified detail of it are irrelevant; the only thing that matters is whether you learn a language or not.

So lack of streaks or lingots won't hurt me the further I go in the Duolingo course?

If your goal is to learn a language, then yes, those lacks would not hurt you.

Many thanks -- the goal is to learn, so if streaks and lingots don't functionally affect my use of the site, that I'll ignore them and go at my own pace.

Thanks for the response!

I've been learning on Duo since 2013 and have only missed a few days. Take a look at how low my "steak" is. Sure, I'd like to see it way up there but so what the learning goes on. Duo is for learning if streaks and other incentives are there they are to help but the main idea is the learning.

Your level is not affected by missing days. You might want to do more review, that's up to you this is a self teaching course.

Don't worry about streaks. They only exist to motivate people to work every day.

The question to ask is "Do I want to learn another language and is Duolingo helping me do so?" If the answer is yes, then ignore the lack of streaks and just pay attention to your increased skills.

The streak is only an attempt to incentivise you to practise every day. Not keeping a long streak up won't hurt your learning experience on Duolingo at all (unless you do actually need the external motivation to do regular practice). If you don't care about your streak, that also nullifies the main use for lingots, namely buying streak freezes, so you can miss a day without losing the streak. So no, it won't hurt you at all.
