It makes more sense to ask 'are you eating a carrot' ie at this moment, or 'do you eat carrots' in general. It's difficult to imagine what the context might be for the utterance 'do you eat a carrot?'.

Is "karoti" both the plural and singular? And if so, could the answer also be written, "Are you eating carrots?"
