I feel this is a peculiar translation. Is something missing?

Isn't a bit weird to know or to not know a crowd? Am I missing something here?

Maybe recognised is a better word to translate "kenal"
I do not recognised that crowd.

In a previous sentence "crowd" was translated as "kerumunan orang". Why only "kerumunan" in the above sentence?

"Kerumunan" is primarily used for "crowd of people", so you can omit "orang". "Kerumunan" can also mean "a swarm (of insects)". "Saya tidak kenal kerumunan itu" could be "I have heard about the massive swarm of locusts in Africa, but I've never seen them".
