I enjoyed a book called "Naiv. Super" by Erlend Loe. There is a "lesebok" edition that provides English translations of key words and expressions in the margins.

I have bought Norwegian translations of books originally written in English and then read the Norwegian and have the English on hand to consult.
I find this a good method as the translations will offer the Norwegian equivalent of an English expression.
One site I have used is www.bokkilden.no They ship books internationally. Unfortunately, they charge 200 NOK on top of the order to do so. So, it can be expensive.
One method to make it less expensive is to order several books at once, another is to order downloadable books that can be read on an electronic device. Downloaded books do not have any additional charges.

Lykke til!

... another is to order downloadable books

Besides the lower prices (for example, I bought the Harry Potter books for about €9/book, which gave me hours and hours of reading), I find reading ebooks preferable as it enables me to quickly look-up a word in a dictionary (double clicking on a word will give me the dictionary entry for that word) and I can highlight words, which then can be added to automatically generated lists with "unknown" words or enable me to copy the sentence containing that word to the clipboard for pasting in a flashcard-app. =) But enough of that =)

As to side-by-side books, I don't know actual books like this, but it is possible to have two books next to each other on a tablet in split-view (see e.g. http://www.appstafarian.com/marvinsxs.html). Of course you would need to have both versions of the book then...

One reason I personally chose the HP-books was that I read them in English before and are quite familiar with them so even if I didn't fully understand the Norwegian at times, I could quite easily deduce the meaning from context or previous knowledge (next to the dictionary hints). Same reason why I'm currently listening to the audiobooks =) Only "problem" after a while is I'm thinking of some of the characters with their Norwegian names and have trouble coming up with the English ones lol. What was Noldus called again? =) Oh, and some "magic & witchery" vocabulary is hard to find in dictionaries (e.g. å immivere/å eksivere), just a warning =p

Jersebas, I regognize this! I had to think of the Dutch translation of Humlesnurr last week :-) And I can have a lengthy conversation about broomsticks in Norwegian, if it ever should come in handy... I found it a great way to improve my vocabulary.

Haha indeed, you never know when it comes in handy =p I now have a list of over 700 words/idioms from the HP-books, most of which can be used outside such conversations luckily =)

If you like history, there is 'Kings of Norway' by Anders Kvåle Rue. These are stories, with English and Norwegian on the same page, about all the kings who have ruled Norway, also color illustrations. Copyright 2006 by Astri My Astri Publishing. For everyday Norwegian with English equivalents, don't overlook phrasebooks. And maybe keep a notebook of the most helpful sentences Duolingo teaches you...
