Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

https://www.duolingo.com/Inspired1982

Simple warning: Don't buy any language course from "duolingo duolingo"

That application's symbol is quite similar as it is the owl as well. However, I thought it was our Duolingo and it has decided to make the "words tree" by money. Nevertheless, since I bought it, it doesn't work at all and it hangs then it i gets switched off. I have left a really negative review on their website, which they actually deserve! Sorry if the topic might seem boring, but some people are so interested into that now, therefore I thought I would share my annoying experience of duolingo duolingo with you guys : ) Thanks for reading : )

There are quite a few Duolingo fake/clones springing up. The simple rule is 'never pay.' Duolingo is free and will always be free!

How do you know it will always be free? What if you need to pay 1 lingot per lesson :o

We know it will be free and always free because DL say so! The mission is free language for the whole world (which includes many many people who could never afford to pay to learn.) To many learning another language, it is a gateway to employment. You 'pay' for DL by the 'time' you spend learning. And DL funds itself by providing Translations for organisations, for which our translations go towards making this technically possible. So, the harder you work the more you 'pay' AND learn :)

Except for the new Certification app :-) The app is free but has in-app purchases ($20 for an official certificate)

Was it on iOS or Android? Please report this to a moderator, so they can report this to the company where you found this app. Could you also move this conversation to the Troubleshooting or Duolingo section please? Thank you!

report it to Duo by the support link to the left of the screen. Include as much information about the app as you can. Apple store and Google Play will take these fakes down if Duo can bring it to their attention.

Unfortunately, there's a new fake Duolingo practically every week on the Apple app store. Apple are the only people who can keep these apps from appearing, and they don't seem to have much interest in doing it. In general it can be hard to tell genuine apps from scams and malware, but if you see a Duolingo app that costs money you can be sure it's a scam: the real thing will always be free.

Thanks to everyone for all this support and advices. Once I have time, I will report it to iOS of the App Store and probably to Duolingo's support link as well. I'll explain to them how misleading this app is, and how they are trying to mislead customers through making them believe they are Duolingo. While they actually use the name of "duolingo duolingo" as a seller name, with a VERY similar owl symbol of the app - unfortunately I only got to investigate and realize this after realizing that the app did not work and its impossible to be the real duolingo app. They are also providing Czech Language, French, English, Russian, German, and Italian. And each language by $3.79. Plus the app doesn't even work - at least for the Spanish. Thank you all : )

I've never seen any of these fake apps in the Google app store, which is ironic considering the Google store is usually regarded as the Wild West of dodgy apps and Apple as tightly controlling everything available in its store.

I think that maybe they should get a patent on Duolingo. That way, they would stop that, but if they do continue, Duolingo could sue, and they could get some moolah.

https://www.duolingo.com/publius77

You can't patent a name or term. But you can trademark one. It turns out that they have filed for a federal trademark on the name Duolingo, and got preliminary approval and notice of publication just today. That should help them be able to take more aggressive action against copycats, maybe get more cooperation from Apple, within the next few months.
