Many of us, speaking as an avid cyclist. ;) The native speakers here have pointed out that bike = bici

My guess is because it is a little ambiguous. People also call motorcycles "bikes". If you knew from the context of the conversation it was a bicycle for sure I say you absolutely could use "bikes" here.

Yes, but there is no context of course, so I would say that "bikes" should be accepted.
