Finally... an all gold English - Spanish Tree!

It's only taken me just under 6 years to do it!

Nevertheless I'm pleased with the achievement and pleased with the way in which my Spanish is improving. Now to work on the reverse tree and turn that one gold!

Wonderful, People like you are a inspiration to me.

What language(if any) do you plan on learning after getting a golden English tree?

If I can do it, anyone can! I don't consider languages as one of my talents, so I think I've had to work harder at it than the average person. It's just been patience and perseverance really.

I'm not sure yet. I'd like to complete the reverse Spanish tree to gold as well and then perhaps complete the French tree. I probably know more French than Spanish as I did it at school, but Spanish is more use to me.

Muchas gracias Senor Antonio Pescadorito!

I've started the reverse Spanish tree that's the American Flag level, and I'm about a quarter of the way down it, but I'm finding it quite challenging. I was doing a lesson earlier where the questions switched between tenses, it had present simple, preterite, future, imperative and if that wasn't bad enough they sprinkled in questions which needed ser and estar! It was quite tricky to remember all the tense changes as well as the differences between ser and estar.

Well worth doing I think and a great next step, but perhaps not before you've completed (or well advanced in) the English to Spanish tree as I think most people might find it too difficult.

Wow, that's an accomplishment! I also started my tree several years ago and came back to dig into it again. I feel like they have improved the site/app so much but yeah, I also had to go back and redo a lot of it. Great job!

Muchas gracias Erika!

Nearly 6 years seems like a long time, but in fairness, that's when I started, most of the work has happened this year. I agree the site has improved considerably from when I started, do you remember having to take part in translation exercises in order to progress? I never did really understand those!

When I came back I basically just started again because I'd forgotten a lot of what I'd learned, but it soon came back. Even now, I do regular revisions to the top half of the tree and that will continue.

Buena suerte!

dont waste your time doing the reverse tree (spanish-english), do another language from spanish (spanish-french) so you learn a new language while at the same time keeping your spanish sharp.

That's an interesting thought!

Spanish is really the language I want to learn and learn to a proficient level, so I think I need to continue working on my Spanish for the moment or until I think it's strong enough to perhaps tackle the French - Spanish tree.

Thank's for the comment though!

Strangely, the owl I got for completing the tree didn't change at all when I completed all the lessons to gold, I thought it would.

I started on here nearly 6 years ago, got about a quarter of the way down the tree and then had to stop due to changing circumstances in real life.

I picked it up again at the beginning of this year, redid all the earlier lessons and just as I got half way down the tree, they updated it to the new tree which put me back to about a quarter of the way down again!

I certainly don't see completing this tree as the end, I see it as very much the beginning as there is still an awful of Spanish I need to learn and improve before I'll be happy with it.

Good luck with your Spanish learning too!

I've pretty much only used duolingo for the practising element, but I've been very proactive in using external sites to help explain grammatical elements I haven't understood. Duolingo is very good as a practising platform, but not very good as a teaching one I've found. Using explanations from external sites and then coming back to duolingo to practice them has helped a lot.

Here's a list of some of the sites I've used on a fairly regular basis:

SpanishDict
StudySpanish
FluentU
ThoughtCo
RealFastSpanish
LawlessSpanish
Verbly

With regards to where I am on the CEFR framework, I would guess somewhere between A2 and B1, kind of advanced beginner moving into intermediate. I feel I would need to do more work identifying and using the correct verb tenses and conjugations to be able to move on any further at this time.

Thank you Giovanni, that's a very kind thing to say and is very much appreciated!

I'm not really one to celebrate achievements. I didn't say anything when I reached level 25 or when I completed the tree, but I thought I'd celebrate a little once I completed it all to gold! It's the learning aspect of all this that is most important to me not achieving milestones. Nevertheless it was nice to achieve this one!

Now the reverse tree... which is a lot trickier!

I used the Test Out button quite a lot, probably more than I should have if I was honest. But, pretty much all of the first half of the tree was completed without the Test Out button because when I did it, it wasn't available! I remember completing Adjectives 2, which contained 120 individual exercises, that was a bit of a marathon!

However, I nearly always completed level 1 and part or all of level 2 before I used the Test Out button on the later exercises, after all the point here is to learn, not to simply complete exercises. But it can get a bit tedious answering lots of questions when you're not making any mistakes.

Yeah, I test of my oldest lessons L4 and L5s when I can easily and quickly read, hear and reply to a multiple rounds. This gives me a break from newer, harder lessons.

But I also let several days elapse on an old lesson before I test out...it should still be very easy even if I haven´t looked at it for a while.

Just to add to what Gray_Roze has written above, you need to do this from your home page. I don't know why but it doesn't seem to allow you to do it from anywhere else. Go to the flag icon, choose add new course, switch your language to Spanish and add the course. You may have to do this several times for it to work. Go to your home page and then use the flag icon again to switch to the new course.

There are two trees you can do in Spanish. The English (learning) Spanish Tree which is the one I've just completed and the Spanish (learning) English Tree, which is the one I'm not working on. You can select which language you speak (English) and one you want to learn (Spanish). So you can simply switch them to do the (what we call) reverse tree.

What do you get for a gold tree? Nothing! Except the satisfaction of having achieved it!
