I love Duolingo

I'm taking a Spanish class at school and my teacher thinks that Duolingo is stupid and we aren't allowed to use it... I have broken that rule and now am thriving learning Spanish. I am so far ahead in my class it is ridiculous. I just wanted to thank all of the wonderful people in this program, It is amazing! ¡Cio!

well your teacher does not know what she is talking about. Duolingo is the best. my Spanish teacher recommends us to use it. i already know all sorts of things she has not taught yet

Same. As my teacher is going over new units(like shopping, family, etc.) and she's like, "can anyone guess what this word means?" and i already know the answer because of Duolingo.

Duolingo is the second best. Memrise is better.

The best way to learn a language is through multiple different sources and methods. Your teacher probably doesn't want to have to answer a lot of students' questions about "How come Duolingo teaches us ____ and you're telling us to say it a different way?" which would require a long explanation.

I'm taking a Spanish class too at school and our profesora encourages us to use various resources. I'm utilizing Duolingo, Memrise, Clozemaster, and other online tutorials. I'm also listening to Spanish podcasts and songs via Spotify and Youtube. During weekends, I also watch Mexican telenovelas.

Traditional language classes are a waste of time. I took 3 years of Spanish in high school. I memorized the conjugations and could write grammatically correct sentences, but not actually hold a conversation with a live human being. Duolingo, tv novellas, music and HelloTalk work much better imo.

I think that's stupid that you're spanish teacher thinks Duolingo is stupid, unless you have really checked it out and actually practiced on it you can't judge it. Also, shouldn't your spanish teacher PROMOTE practicing the language outside of school for practice and to do better in class? I think most would.

      Hola!

Write your comments to David Freedman who just wrote a scathing (aka; "dissed" for you youngsters) article about Duolingo in The Atlantic magazine.

Maybe Mr. Freedman should have interviewed some of the users of the software before he wrote his article for a more well rounded appraisal to Duolingo.

The article can be found on his site at: https://freedman.com/

Why does duolingo not include the Latin language that is studied by millions of students and enthusiasts in the world? Turn the message around so that it is taken into account. Wow, that is very surprising that such a valuable resource like Duolingo would be restricted by a school. that would probablly be because there would be no point to the teacher's class if you already knew everything. The person needs a paycheck, so if the teacher let everyone use Duolingo, then everyone would understand and not need the teacher, and teacher would get fired because he/she is not needed. Thus creating a new era of learning which has already begun, where you can learn something new with a simple input into a machine. I can definitely see the reasoning behind your teacher, but well done on learning with Duolingo.
