This is translated as "season of hot weather", which doesn't sound great in English, and "hot season" is not accepted

"Hot season" accepted. (13 Aug 2019). This is good, because temperate zone seasons (spring, summer, winter, autumn) just don't compare very well -- at all -- the with tropical zone seasons in East Africa.

Is summer kiangazi or this :)?

they're interchangeable, since in East Africa we don't really refer to the hot season as 'summer', it's just 'hot season'
