I lost my 1900+ day streak :-(
I am sooooo incredibly bummed. It was bound to happen at some point. Streak freeze saved my a*s a few times, but now it finally happened.
Shedding some green, feather-shaped tears over here...
Think of all the new posts you can make now, "I got a 10 day streak, a 20 day streak, etc".
Songve. Mille grazie for my first chuckle of the day! So very true.
Well, no use crying over spilt milk, Franky, you yourself said it was bound to happen sooner or later. Rather than be upset over something you can't control, be happy with what you HAVE accomplished! 1900-plus straight days is already mind-blowing in and of itself! No more tears, ok? Smile! :)
An impressive streak, second only to that of Erica Roe! If I'm allowed to say that these days...
Intwo. Brilliant, thanks for my second darned good laugh of the day!
She's accomplished more than that. This is FrankySka. She's a titan of Duolingo's volunteer history. The company probably wouldnt exist without her. O.O we're not worthy.
Yo wingbunny! It's been a decade! tackle hugs Holy Frith 1900? No fair, you doubled mine and youre 5 times as busy as I am. Btw, you up for a Nobel yet? I turned off my news alerts. Had to take a break.
Wingbunny! you sssshhh! right now. talking about Titans you are doing so much more than me. No nobel price in sight. Too busy teaching undergrads X-D. Miss you bunny. I should find away to be in the forums more often again!
Can well understand the disappointment but it hasn't affected your knowledge. Just start again and feel less owned by what is really only a number. (I put my Duo start date in my profile just to remind myself of how far I've come. It helped). You'll be just fine.
Sorry you lost your streak. 1900+ days is very impressive. Thank you for everything you do here at Duolingo! According to Duome, your streak is still available for repair.
Do you know how to get streak repair? I can't seem to figure out how to sign up for duolingo plus for some reason....
That's what I found.
The following article in the Duolingo support center tells you how to repair a streak: https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004087426-What-is-a-Streak-Repair-
Try installing an ad blocker, then a banner will come up saying to either disable it, or support free education with Duolingo plus
As soon as you have a 100+ day streak you're automatically added to duome.
Oh, wow. I've lost some big ones (420-ish, 720-ish) but nothing near that.
The last one didn't really bum me. I was burned out on Duolingo and had actually logged in and done nothing more than bought a streak freeze a few times the week before I lost my streak.
Your situation is totally different. Losing a streak unexpectedly, and when you're engaged, is a kick in the gut.
I (being an expert now at losing streaks, lol) find I have to wait a few days, then when I jump back in the first 100 points come rather slowly but after that they start ticking off pretty quickly. Although since I've never had a streak into the thousands maybe your first THOUSAND will be slow to come O.O
FrankySka, congratulations on your streak and I'm sorry you've lost it.
I join with you in bumdum and the tears you so neatly described. It was a very busy weekend but I thought I practiced on Saturday knowing that Sunday was going to be a busy day and that I had the streak freeze in my pocket.
Today, knowing that I missed Sunday, I find that I must have missed Saturday and my 1902 day streak is gone, too. Drats!
But cheers to Duolingo! Let's see what our next streaks will be.
You can still repair it today until your "current streak" switches from 2 to 3!
- Last Streak: 1902 · lost 4 days ago
You were finally switched today to ELIGIBLE false for the "streak repair" because of the "last streak lost 4 days ago" rule.
Thomas, thank you so much. I knew about the repair option but chose not to do it. I use streak freezes from time-to-time because I can plan any absences and have one for the occasional emergency, but the after-the-fact repair just didn't seem right to me. I would, in effect, be fixing something that was lost due to my negligence. While it would have been "fixed," I would have known in my own mind that my old streak was no longer real.
oh wow, i'm so sorry!! But even more impressive are your stats in the languages you have chosen to do! Dont give up, keep going :)
Aah, so sorry. Obviously, you have all the knowledge still from that amazing streak, but it's nice to have the evidence clocking up, day by day. I'd feel exactly the same if I lost my own far more modest number. I guess, the higher the number of days, the worse it gets. As someone else said, isn't it possible to buy a monthly streak repair, by taking a one month duolingo plus? You would also then be able to give yourself a pat on the back for a donation to the culling project. Have a lingot, anyway, from me
Sorry to hear that, I hope you will start a new one and keep going!
Very sorry to hear that! It's not the end of the world, although it probably feels like it. Once I lost an almost 190 day streak (notice the missing 0, compared to your streak) and was also incredibly bummed--must be ten times worse for you. To console yourself, buy a Spanish book (or something) you've been hankering for, to use and remind you of all the Spanish knowledge you've gained.
Maybe you'll start posting/commenting more? You were always one of my favorite people for posting, and either you're posting less or it's all in a forum I don't subscribe to.
Unless it was 1964 days since you posted this discussion page, then you didn't lose it.
Sux - what 5yrs 2_1/2 months - - Gone like the wind..... . Well, now I guess you have a new challenge [ To Try Beat Yourself ]
I'm sorry for your streak. Don't feel bad. I heard a post before about if streaks important or necessary. It's cool you get those reach a 30 day streak and you get a trophy, but after that in my opinion, I don't think it's all important. Cheer up and smile :)
Back then, I felt like I needed to do something everyday just to maintain a streak. I hardly try to focus on my lesson. Looking back at it now, I don't care about it. I'm just glad this site exist.
But congrats on 1900+. I don't think I seen anyone reach that high before. It shows you're really are giving it your all. You can try to aim for a bigger streak.
Don't worry about it, the streak has fulfilled its purpose: to make it a habit for you to practice daily here on DL. I also lost some long streaks on Memrise due to a bug, and it took a while for me to realize that, in fact, nothing of importance had really changed.
That question has always been on my mind every time I see someone's icon with a lot of languages.
Ouch! That's OVER FIVE YEARS!! Here's a lingot to help with more streak freezes!
I got a kick out of that. Thanks macombdag!
So, would "streaking" be when one is on a streak, or when one follows up a lost streak with a new streak? xD
Did you somehow get your streak back? I hope so! Today (six days after you wrote your post)) is see a 1963 day streak!!
That is just sad:(
i have a 9+ day streak but how do you remember all of those languages
I just gave you a lingot, so that should totally make up for losing your streak. Oh, and congratulations for building up an amazing streak like that; you should be really proud of that. I'm just trying to get to 100 days.
Wow! And here I was like "Dang, my 70 day streak." That is a wonderful accomplishment!! Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened! And think of everything you've learned from that time on Duo! Here's to another 1900+!
Pero usted no ha perdido su conocimiento.
Is that even the right way to say what I mean?
It seems like despite all my days learning, Spanish still no me viene natural and it often sounds wrong when I say it.
Bummer. But, I'll tell you what's even better than a streak count on some website, and that's the ability to actually speak in your target language(s). Think of all you learned in that 1900 days... that's worth a lot more than bragging points here, surely?
Oh no! I'm sorry about that, losing a streak like that is painful. Thankfully, losing the streak didn't take away what you've learned!
It's like that sometimes. I've had some close calls trying to keep my streak going.
Congrats on a very impressive streak! To bad you have to start from scratch, but it's just the streak right, not like you forgot what you learned ;-) On a personal note, having just started Duolingo 22 days ago, I wonder how good you got with Duolingo at speaking the language? Cheers Bart
When you use a streak freeze, does it get automatically used whenever you don't reach your daily goal?
I can't help but chuckle at myself for complaining over the loss of a 250 day streak a short while back.
It freed my mind and I began learning in a more relaxed state. I started using Doulingo for the sole purpose of language learning and not streak maintaining.
The irony is though, I lost my streak while traveling abroad, to put my knowledge I obtained from Doulingo to use.
I mark my own streak on a sheet of paper. Not for using streak freezes or earning a minimum of 10 XP on Doulingo. Rather, for days in which I put a significant amount of effort into language learning. Be It speaking to natives, reading books, YouTube tutorials on verbs and conjunctions etc.
Oh wow, so sorry to hear. I realize everyone says it's not about the length of the streak or how golden your tree is, it's what you have learned that counts. Yes, that's true, but . . . . I will, no doubt, make your exact post someday, but I'm trying my best. What's going to trip me up is changing time zones while traveling.
You know, I wish there was a way to cash in some of these (mostly worthless) lingots to buy back a streak.
so sad for your loss,I lost a 420 and a 250 due to internet drops so sort of know how you feel, but on a positive note now the streak has gone you no longer have the pressure and may enjoy the learning process more because it is no longer a daily chore.Have a week off and try it without stress don
t give up though were all behind you
Duolingo can return your streak to you if there was a software issue that resulted in the loss of your streak. I once had to contact them because I lost my streak due to a time zone issue.
I'm sorry to see the loss of your 1900+ streak - over 5 + years - impressive. To many more years of learning foreign languages. :)
Don't give up! You should get another 1900 day streak! I know you can overcome this! Just do it! :)
I'm sorry; that must be so incredibly frustrating! :-( I just wanted to comment and say how impressed I am that you made it to 1900 though! Those kinds of numbers are so inspiring to newbies like me!
Ok I definitely shouldn't be mad about my recent 5 day streak then....before that my max was maybe 160?? and that was 4 years ago... Ok, you have served as an inspiration, so dry your green feathers and good luck with the next one!
i cant believe people have streaks that big!! The longest streak i had was about 30 days hahaha!!
You don't need a streak. Enjoy duolingo don't make duolingo a chore (if it was) because that will ruin the fun of it.
A few days ago I lost my five day streak and today a pop up appeared saying I can fix it for £3.49 so in a few days you might be able to pay to restore it
Feels bad, at least you know all the days u had the streak running you learn a lot of new things
That's tough, then again opportunity to create another 1900+ say streak :D, Good Luck!
I lost my 200+ day streak recently because I was on vacation in Mexico and didn't get to do my lessons and forgot to buy a streak freeze. :-( I feel like just being in Mexico should count for 20xp
Was ? 1453684 Lingots?
Ich hab grade mal nach 2 Jahren knapp 5000 :-)
Wow...so close to 2,000. That's a lot..wait....THAT'S LIKE TWO YEARS OF WORK!!! My god....
Hehe, and here I am sad for losing my 10 day streak and making the cute little owl sad.
That is pretty amazing that you went 5 years straight without losing your streak. I barely knew English then.
psst! you might be able to make something out of the fact that the day your points are attributed to seem to depend on your computer's clock...
I can relate a little. I lost a 217 day streak in the Dominican Republic because of an internet outage. I felt cheated. Now I am on a 220 day streak so I'm back to where I was.
I'm curious as one who has a 729 day streak if after 1900+ days you are able to speak Spanish somewhat fluently and have a conversation in Spanish? I'm a bit frustrated that I'm learning a lot of vocabulary but I'm not comfortable yet conversing. Any tips and experiences would be welcome...m
I appreciate how you feel but there is no need to be too bummed out. You made 1900 days! That is impressive and shows a lot of determination.
Like falling off a horse, just brush yourself down and get back on.
Lykke til! (Good luck!)
I have not upgraded to Duolingo Plus, and it happens. I haven't even got a 10 day streak yet!!!
I just noticed to my dismay that my account says I am on a 4-day streak, which means that I just lost a 957-day streak. I'm seriously bummed. My pro account says that "streak repair automatically applies if the streak is broken in the last 48 hours". If this is so, and since I use duolingo every day, how could my streak get broken? The only thing I can think of, is that I was in Canada for three days at the beginning of last week, even was still using Duolingo daily.
Is it possible you did not meet your Daily Goal (in points) even though you did a lesson? This happened to me way back. I had thought I only had to do one lesson a day to keep my streak; however my Daily Goal (under Settings) was 40 XP (usually 2 lessons). So when I did only one lesson on a day that I was traveling, I lost my streak. It was not until I checked Settings that I saw the problem was that I didn't know Daily Goal points, not the number of lessons, is what you need to keep the streak.
