Japanese children books with tape or CD
When I was little I learned to read in english by reading childrens books that came with cassette tapes that my mom bought from a traveling salesman. These books would set me up for life because they allowed me to learn to read before I reached the 1st grade. I am wondering if there are Japanese versions of these. Perhaps even ones with CDs. I can see myself picking up vocabulary a lot easier this way and enjoying reading Japanese without reading one hiragana or katakana character at a time trying to guess sentence structure. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you
Graded readers are exactly what you are looking for. I recommend this series. A little pricey, but they come in different levels of complexity and have an audio CD.
I don't know what your level is, but when you get to the point when you would like to read something for adults, Giles Murray, who is a Japanese to English translator, has put some materials together so you can read Japanese novels along with an audio recording. His website is www.speaking-japanese.com. You buy the book then go to the website to listen to the recording or listen on your cell phone if you have the app.
