Apa apa? I understand that we are essentially splitting tidak apa, but what is the second apa doing here?

apa-apa = apa pun = apa saja = apa aja = whatever.
It's also the way to say that there is nothing wrong:
'Tidak ada apa-apa'
'There is nothing'

"Saya tidak mengharapkan apa pun dari kamu". Is this correct? I had apa pun instead of apa-apa.
