Fairdinkum. Congratulations Duolingo.

I am currently on a 36 day streak of studying French and I have reserved posting an opinion until now.

My inspiration for learning French resulted from a combination of knowing a small community of French people in my neighbourhood, employing a French backpacker and two upcoming trips to New Caledonia and France. I thought why not and challenged myself to be able to converse with them.

My French friends are truly surprised and impressed with how far I have advanced in a short period of time and I owe this to Duolingo.

Congratulations Duolingo you really have made learning another language fun. I would almost go as far as saying it's a game disguised as a learning application.

It's excellent and I recommend it.

Mr Good Cat

P.S. Fairdinkum is a hint as to where I am from :)

wow, you seem to have progressed so fast. Congratulations. By the way how many exp do you collect in a day on average?

Hi PurakShres. On a bad day between 100-150xp but when I find some time like today, I may achieve anywhere between 300-500xp. I do this by utilising all components of DuoLingo including practice, the stories and the subsequent flash cards.

I actually read the first few words as "My French fries" and laughed for a straight 10 seconds! ;)

Btw, good to hear from fellow learners. I started with French but low-key abandoned it in favour of Japanese, German and Russian! xP

P.S That's a nice profile picture lol

Excellent! Bien fait!

I really respect that one of the reasons you want to learn is because you're employing a french backpacker. I'm friends with one, and I can tell you they'll appreciate it a lot (and talking with them will be better practice than anything on duo). p.s, pretty sure it's two words - 'fair dinkum' mate ;)

I originally wanted to learn French, because when my parents told me we were moving to Canada, my dad joked about how he wanted an interpreter for the family, in case almost everyone spoke French there. (Spoiler alert, most people speak English.) I took that seriously, and, along with just hearing about Duolingo, I started learning French on my kinda big iPad.

Fast forward to when we're now in Canada and in French class. Everything was going great, then our teacher mentioned Duolingo to us. I used my school email to open up an account and started learning. I was really thrilled when I showed her my progress over time.

Then, I got demotivated over Christmas break, since we had this really big project and I got to interact with family and other friends.

Now, fast forward to mid-late April, when the Duolingo memes showed up, then I said, "You know what, I'm gonna take learning on Duolingo seriously this time." I started regaining my streak since May 1, 2019, and I'm really happy at the progress I have. I've also thought about learning Esperanto for fun, but I stopped for a bit, since I got really motivated by learning French and how quickly my progress went.

That original French teacher went on maternity leave, and that account with my school email? I'm using it right now.

Mme. Clark, if you're reading this, thank you for inspiring me to take on this tremendous goal of learning French! I hope you come back with us next year.

I am glad you have re discovered your enthusiasm for learning French irrespective of whether most Canadians speak English. Good luck to your and I hope your teacher comes back too :).
