Duolingo suggestion- Hindi

I had a few suggestions in the Hindi course as I was doing it. I have been speaking Hindi all my life and wanted to try out the course, so these are just a few observations

  • In the practice tests, there has been a gender confusion.
  • There has been no clear distinction between तुम, तू and आप. This can easily confuse people.
  • Duolingo does not accept answers such as two thirty instead of half past two.
  • There are many mispronounciations of letters like न in नमक as ण making it णमक.
  • In most lessons, there is no clarification between the formal and informal way of speaking and addressing people.

I hope that these lessons can be reviewed few more times to make them perfect for begginers. Ps- I didn’t know where to post this as there was no report option in the app or the website.

For the points relating to pronunciation it is likely caused by the speech synthesis. It is still quite hard to get synthesized speech right.

Regarding the other points, I think maybe these issues should be brought up to the Hindi course maintainers. They would be the ones that could look into specific issues and work on them.

I agree. This is what I do in other languages: When my (correct) reply is not accepted, I press the button "Report". This report button includes the option "My solution should be accepted" (or similar).

A few weeks later, I got an email telling me that my solution had been included in the set of correct solutions.

We can also contribute to the "sentence discussion" of the relevant sentence. In this way, the thoughts are directly linked to the phrase they are referring to.

I do know that and even I get notified if my answer has been accepted but when I type my answer in to duo, it shows it as an incorrect answer. Is this a glitch or something.

Hi, you shed the light pretty nicely. I can second your observations somehow. I am an Urdu speaker and landed at this course mainly to learn Devnagri script. And I feel the course needs a substantial revisit ro improve its quality.

I really don’t know if Duolingo is going to review this and update the current version with the needed changes. So we just can wait..

How do I switch to a Hindi keyboard on a computer?

If you are on windows, go to google input options ans change to Hindi, accept and download the package. You will find 2 options on your menu bar now showing which language you are typing in. EN- English and HI- Hindi. Hope this helps because I don’t know if you have a Mac or Apple PC
