Japanese - Kanji Characters are hard to see on a laptop.

Does anyone else have a hard time distinguishing kanji letters, especially on the exercises where you construct sentences or match characters with their hiragana/english equivalent?

Yes, it's super tiny and complex, all those little strokes. I just zoom in.

Not so hard for me. Playing older PS1 games (final fantasy VII) is a nightmare though!

On my Fedora system I have installed most, if not all, Japanese fonts. They mostly look fine for me, except the odd character that shows up much smaller than the others. I guess that is because my primary font doesn't contain a representation of that specific character so it falls back to the first available font that does have it. (Don't quote me on this, I am certainly not an expert, I'm just trying to reason it through based on what little I do know.)

However, on Memrise I have this problem with Thai script. It appears so small that I can hardly distinguish the characters. I am guessing that I have to do a dnf search for more Thai fonts as well.

Trying a different font may help. There should be several available. Take some time and find one that is easy on your eyes.

I forgot to ask, how do characters appear if you open up a web page with Japanese text, like a Japanese Wikpedia article? Is it really small there as well?

I am tempted to suggest changing the zoom level in your browser, but remember that will affect all text, not only the Japanese one. It wouldn't be pleasant to have a normal sized kana beside a latin character that is so huge that it fills 90% of the screen.

Just checked, the characters are small there too. I guess it isn't specific to duolingo.

Windows 7 & 10 have a built-in app called Magnifier - you can anchor it somewhere on the screen and it will magnify everything under your cursor.
